Background

i: Independent Television (mostly referred to as simply i) was a rebrand of Paxson Communications' Pax TV that launched on July 1, 2005. With the rebrand, the network aimed to "provide an independent broadcast platform for producers and syndicators who desire to reach a national audience", according to founder Bud Paxson. In its 19-month lifespan however, i barely achieved this goal, mostly resorting to reruns of programs from the Pax TV era and other acquisitions; the one series that did meet this criteria, the teen drama Palmetto Pointe, was poorly received and only lasted seven episodes in 2005. On January 29, 2007, the network changed its name to Ion Television, following its parent company's rebrand to Ion Media Networks.

Logo (July 1, 2005-January 28, 2007)

Visuals: On a dark blue background with "INDEPENDENT" in an ITC Avant Garde font rotating around, as well as flat blue plates of the "i" logo floating upwards, an orange sphere is seen with the front of it opening up to reveal a set of lenses, as well as a large rectangular block appearing below it. The lenses then light up and view around while the logo straightens up, and twists its position towards the left of it. The "i" moves back as "NDEPENDENT" appear and spin one by one in an ITC Avant Garde font. The logo zooms out as the background continues to move.

Variant: A few color variants exist, like a red background and turquoise logo, and a lime logo with a plain black background.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A generic techno beat plays in the background, with the sound of the lens opening up, as well as an announcer saying "i: Independent Television." It ends with a 3-note pin-drop tune with a female voiceover saying "i."

Availability: It usually appeared at the end of its original programming, including Palmetto Pointe.
