Background

Alomo Productions was the production company of comedy writers Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, launched as a subsidiary of WitzEnd Productions. It was part of SelecTV (not to be confused with the former pay-TV service of the same name), acquired by Pearson Television in 1996. The company was shut down by Talkback Thames in 2003.

1st Logo (16 October 1989-25 December 1991)

Visuals: On a green background, several playing cards fall onscreen one at a time to spell the company name (in order: black "A" with clove, red "L" with heart, black "O" with spade, red "M" with diamond, black "O" with spade and the final card is a joker). Below the company name "ALOMO PRODUCTIONS" fades in below. After a moment, a copyright stamp for BBC or Channel 4 appears below.

Variant: Later on, the byline for SelecTV appears underneath.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Appears at the end of their programmes at the time such as Birds of a Feather.

2nd Logo (6 September 1992-30 August 2002)

Visuals: Virtually the same as the previous logo, except it takes place on a black background. The falling cards' design is redone, as they are spaced further out to allow room for the letters on the face of the card to be seen. Also, on the Joker card, "PRODUCTIONS" is seen beside the joker on both sides, and on one side "PRODUCTIONS" is seen upside down. A byline and the channel logo, along with a copyright, fades below.

Bylines:

  • 6 September 1992-1996: "SelecTV for Channel Four/BBC" (with the 1988 BBC logo). This version has a special animation, with blue lasers coming from the bottom of the screen to reveal the byline.
  • 1996-2001: "A Pearson Television Company".
  • 2001-30 August 2002: "A FremantleMedia Company".

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability:

  • Appears on various programmes from the era, such as Birds of a Feather and Goodnight Sweetheart, among others.
  • The "SelecTV for BBC" variant of this logo with the 1988 BBC logo also appears at the end of the 1995 UK VHS release of Goodnight Sweetheart from The Video Collection.
