Pilot Productions

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

1st Logo (May 26, 1994-April 19, 1999)

Visuals: Against a moving sky background, "PILOT" is stylized like a propeller with the "O" in the center. The "propeller" spins near 90 degrees clockwise, revealing "PILOT" and "PRODUCTIONS" on the top left and bottom right respectively in an arc. After the company name is revealed, the logo stops spinning.

Variant: On the Equinox documentary "The Riddle of the Leaning Tower", the logo is boxed and next to the Paneikon TV Productions logo.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A descending, synthesized woodwind sting followed by two electronic bongs.

Availability: It appeared on original airings of the first four seasons of Globe Trekker and the Equinox documentary "The Riddle of the Leaning Tower". The former has this logo plastered by the next on newer prints since the early 2000's and the latter cannot be found elsewhere nowadays but BFI appointment viewings.

2nd Logo (September 4, 2000-April 9, 2017)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a light, which forms the Pilot Productions logo on a desert background.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A wonderful orchestral music.

Availability: Can be found on seasons 5 and onwards of Globe Trekker (formerly Lonely Planet, sometimes called "Pilot Guides" in Canada) on PBS and Travel Channel.
