YLE Cassette and Disc Service

1st Logo (1985-1991)

Visuals: On a blue background, there is a slightly modified version of the Yleisradio logo of the time (a blue circle with 2 evergreen trees, a radio tower, a wavelength, and "RADIO" in a bold font, with this version omitting the lines on the tower and having an animated, more angular wavelength) encased in a white oblong. After a bit, the wavelength zooms in, detaches from the logo, and begins to glow as the background becomes black and the logo disappears. The wavelength then condenses into a diagonal line and 3 more are drawn in, the last one condensing into a spiral as it moves towards the left. When the logo finishes drawing itself, "TALLENNEPALVELU" fades in below.

Variant: A closing variant features the same logo animation, except that "KASSETTJÄNST" fades in below instead of "TALLENNEPALVELU".

Technique: Backlit cel animation.

Audio: A droning synth chime tune. This is actually a remix of the old interval signal heard in Yle's radio broadcasts.

Availability: Seen on tapes from the time period.

2nd Logo (1992-2000)

Visuals: Same as the first Yle logo, but the word "KASETTIKANAVA" appears below the logo along with "YLE". The logo then zooms to the top left corner as the warning screen scrolls up.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Same as the first Yle logo.

Availability: It could be spotted in reprints of Finnish Rölli, Alfred J. Kwak and Moomins VHS releases.
