Background

The International Instructional Television Cooperative (ITV) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1973 to develop, produce, and distribute educational shows in the fields of language arts, science, social studies, art and consumer education.

1st Logo (September 1, 1977-1978)


Visuals: On a black background, a strange-looking logo appears, which consists of a "T" attached to the left of a bracket-like "C". The combination makes it look like a "V" instead. On the "T" is a black "I", surrounded in a outline with the same color as the logo. A dot appears above the "I".

Variants: This is either filmed or videotaped:

  • Filmed: The logo is yellow and the dot is white.
  • Videotaped: The logo is light blue and the dot is red.

Technique: Motion-controlled animation.

Audio:

  • Filmed: A synth fanfare with the last note held out.
  • Videotaped: A ding.

Availability: The Book Bird had the filmed logo, while Dragons, Wagons and Wax had the videotaped logo.

2nd Logo (1980's)

Visuals: On a black background, there is an orange rounded rectangle, which inside it has "TVC" in a stylized serif font. After five seconds, an orange dot appears above the "T".

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: A female announcer saying the following: "This station is a member of the Instructional Television Cooperative, ITVC. Whose funding makes this program possible." A popping sound appears mid-sentence.
