Background

KUED is a PBS affiliate located in Salt Lake City, Utah.

1st Logo (1976-1979?)

Unknown

2nd Logo (1979?-1992)

Visuals: Against a live-action background of a snow-capped peak that we fly over, we see the letters "KUED" in an Aero Extended font with cuts on the "E" & "D", colored yellow, brightly flashing and below that, the words "Salt Lake City" in a thin futuristic font, but smaller and colored red-orange, wipe in via a star, just like in the 1st Hanna-Barbera Home Video logo, and a few stars can be seen blinking on the logo, even as we fade out.

Variants:

  • A shorter version exists, on a blue background.
  • A longer version exists. Over the peak, the logo animates in a similar fashion to the 1980 Telepictures logo, only it goes downward rather than upward. Then after the flash the logo continues as normal.

Technique: A mix of chroma-keyed Scanimate and live-action.

Audio: A loud, squeaky, five-note synth-chime tune that increases in volume. The longer variant has two synth-tuba notes along with a Ruby-Spears-esque "warbling" sound in the background, then continues as normal.

Availability: Unknown. [Examples?]

3rd Logo (1992-1999)

Visuals: On a gray metallic background, a glass parallelogram slides down with "KUED" cut out of it. A gold bar with "SALT LAKE CITY" on it fades in, changing to "PRESENTS" when it shines.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A deep cello theme.

Availability: Appeared on Civic Dialogue, which can be viewed on the American Archive of Public Broadcasting.

4th Logo (2003)

Visuals: On a black and red background, there is a red "7", a black P-Head Circle logo, a yellow "KUED and a purple "Utah" fading in, before fading out.

Technique: Fading effects.

Audio: A 7-note Moog synthesizer tune.

Availability: Can be seen at the end of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir special.
