Background
Videoring was a German video company founded by Paul Mockel around the late 1970s. They were first known for distributing music videos around Germany around the late 1970s. In 1980, they started selling video cassettes in Scandinavian nations, UK, Ireland, and other European countries.
Logo (1979-1981)
![]() | This logo contains flashing images at 0:00-0:11 and 0:14-0:26. |
Visuals: There are a multitude of colorful, kaleidoscopic wallpaper-like designs rapidly changing and zooming in towards the screen. When the colors freeze, the image breaks into a set of green wavy lines dispersing to all directions of the screen over a turquoise/yellow/white lava lamp-like background, which fades-out to reveal a magenta background with a sliding green eclipse. As the eclipse slides away in a circle shape, the Videoring logo appears, consisting of the shaded angled word "Videoring" surrounded by a ring made up of the right stem of the "V" and the leg of the "g". The on-print logo fades out and more colorful designs zoom-in towards the screen. As this happens, various blue, heliotrope, and dark green wavy floors zoom-up from below, and the colors morph into an aquamarine circle. This morphs into the Videoring logo containing a white shade, shown against a turquoise background.
Variant: A still version consists of the logo in an orange color, set on a black background.
Technique: Scanimate and video feedback effects.
Audio: A 70's-era synthesized disco tune, which sounds like "You're My Best Friend" by Queen, as well as "Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum. The ending is the same as the Videoklubben logo as well.
Availability: The company was one of the first VHS distributors, and their latest releases date back to 1981, so it'll be tough to find. The logo might be available in old video stores across Europe or online. [Examples?]
