Background

Strand Home Video was the second name of the North American division of Video Collection International (then known as The Video Collection) that distributed special interest and children's videos. In December 1993, the company was acquired by the Handleman Group, and in 1994 was absorbed into Video Treasures.

1st Logo (placeholder logo) (April 23, 1992)

Visuals: On a gray background, a black rectangle with a white "HOME VIDEO", in the Futura font on it slides up, followed by a red rectangle with a white "STRAND", in a Windsor Elongated font, on it flying in and rotating in from the right.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: The audio from the Strand VCI Entertainment logo.

Availability: This is only known to appear on Wild and Wacky Sports Moments, Volume 1. It is likely this was just a placeholder for the next logo.

2nd Logo (July 16, 1992-1994)

Visuals: On a starry sky background, a globe of Earth flies in from the bottom right corner of the screen and rotates clockwise; it is donned with dark gray oceans and gray continents. As the globe freezes on a tilted North America, a grid pattern is wiped in from top to bottom. Then, a shiny black rectangle drops down from the top of the screen as it rotates around. Along with the rectangle, a red rectangle with a silver border and a silver "STRAND", in the same font as before, flies and rotates in from the right of the screen and the silver text "HOME VIDEO", also in the same font as before, come in from both sides and flip around once. When they all meet up, the logo flashes a thin white outline and freezes into a 2D image.

Trivia: Since Strand Home Video was the American counterpart of The Video Collection, a white star appears on the globe right where London is.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The audio from the 1986 Video Collection logo, but without the quiet beeping sound at the beginning.

Availability: Seen on the company's releases from this time period until its closure in 1994.

  • This logo is preserved on later Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends VHS releases in the U.S. from 1992 to 1994.
  • It is also seen on Kino's Storytime VHS releases.
