Background

Alpha Video was a VHS company founded by Stanley Long. The company formed a partnership with Intervision, who co-distributed Alpha's output until 1985, following Intervision's closure in the mid-80s.

Logo (July 1981-April 1985)

Visuals: On a dark blue background, an abstract "α" (the lowercase Greek letter of alpha) draws in on the left. When it is finished, the white word "alpha" wipes in to the right in a wide font.

Variant: A variant showing the print logo exists. On a dark blue background, the phrase "FOR YOUR FURTHER ENJOYMENT" is seen at the top, followed by the Alpha Video print logo. It has the word "alpha", stylized in a blocky font, and the alpha letter can be seen in a box above the "alpha", as well as the text "video" in a yellow outline to the right of it. "PRESENTS" can be seen below the logo as well.

Technique: Traditional animation. None for the variant.

Audio: Telex by Derek Scott, a harsh, droning synth tune with synthetic clunks and beeps.

Audio Variants:

  • For the variant, the logo is silent.
  • There also exists a silent version of the standard logo.

Availability:

  • The logos can be seen in UK pre-cert tapes (mainly horror movies) from Alpha released through Intervision and CBS/FOX, particularly Dawn of the Dead.
  • The silent standard logo can be seen in the first release of Kentucky Fried Movie.
  • The variant can be seen after the logo sometimes.
