Background
2 Entertain is a British music and video publisher, founded in September 2004, following a merger between BBC Video and Video Collection International. BBC Worldwide owned 60% of the company until 2010, when the company purchased The Woolworth Group's share of 40%. As of November 2013, the 2 Entertain name is only used on occasional non-BBC releases.
(September 2005-)
Logo: On a black background, white spotlights start to appear, shining about before disappearing for a moment. Then, they return as they intensify and then reveal a light blue plate, which rotates around to reveal "2 entertain" close-up. As they zoom out one-by-one, the lights continue to shine brightly before they slowly start to die down. Finally, a lens flare shoots across the logo to change it to blue and the lights fade out.
Variants:
- On Blu-ray releases, the words "HIGH DEFINITION" rotate in during the final flash of light.
- On Clarkson: The Italian Job, the logo appears smaller and still, and is in white.
Technique: The flash and zooming words. Simple but very effective CGI.
Music/Sounds: A series of calm synth noises with a 4-note synth tune in between.
Availability: Common.
- It appears on most BBC DVD releases from 2005 until 2012. However, a majority of them (mainly children's releases) just have the BBC logo and warning without this preceding.
- It appears on Thomas & Friends DVDs beginning with Calling All Engines! (also appeared on the VHS of the former) to The Spirit of Sodor. The HIT Entertainment reissues replace this logo and the warning with theirs instead beginning in mid-2008.
- It also appears on DVDs of Fifi and the Flowertots (excluding "Fifi's Talent Show", which was released by VCI (Despite having the 2 Entertain logo on the cover), and also including the VHS of "Fifi's in Charge") and Rory the Racing Car.
- Appears on various Milkshake! DVD releases until Abbey Home Media took over.
- Also appears on DVDs of several RDF/Zodiak-owned children's shows, including Waybuloo, Mister Maker and Big Barn Farm.
- It can be seen on many Aardman DVD releases, such as Shaun the Sheep: The Complete First Series, Wallace & Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death, Angry Kid Season 2, Aardman’s Darkside, Creature Comforts Season 3 (which is actually the show’s USA version) as well as Wallace & Gromit: The Complete Collection on Blu-ray.
- It can be seen on a few Universal Pictures Home Entertainment DVD releases in the UK, usually after the Universal logo, such as the first and second series of All Creatures Great and Small, Last of the Summer Wine, The Vicar of Dibley and many other BBC series.
- Other non-BBC releases that feature this logo include DVDs of Celebrity Juice, Friday Night Dinner and The IT Crowd, among others.
Legacy: This logo has very good CGI for 2005.
