Background

Silicon Knights (SK) was a Canadian video game developer best known for creating the GameCube games Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. In 2007, the company went into a legal battle with Epic Games, regarding misuse of the latter's Unreal Engine. In 2012, Epic won the battle, and as a result, SK went bankrupt in 2014.

1st Logo (November 15, 1996)

Visuals: The camera zooms out from the silver top of a rotating, green cube with motherboard-like patterns on it and a dumbbell shape on its sides. The words "Putting the magic back into software." are written in black on the top of the cube. The cube moves to the center of the screen, shown from its side, before a sword falls from the top of the screen and stabs through the cube, accompanied by a light flash effect. The words "Silicon Knights" appear on the screen, and the cube stops rotating a couple of seconds later.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Ambient music with a buzzing sound plays throughout. A thunder sound plays when the sword appears and stabs the cube.

Availability: Seen on Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.

2nd Logo (June 24, 2002)

Visuals: Seven blue runic symbols, arranged in a circular pattern, fade in. Blue rings emerge from them as the camera moves backwards into a blue patterned wall with the words "Putting magic into software" in the middle. We then move backwards until we see the cube from before. A sword strikes the top of it as it rotates while the words "Silicon Knights®" appear. The cube stops rotating and the top of it flashes.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A darkful noise followed by a phrase spoken by a man. Then, there is a sword slash when the sword hits the cube.

Availability: Seen on Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, right after the Nintendo logo.

3rd Logo (November 19, 2008)

Visuals: A green light shines down from above on a dark background, illuminating a spot of the floor and leaving green particles above it. As this happens, a winged, knight-like character clad in white armor descends to the ground, landing hunched over. He then stands up, spreading his wings as the words "S I L I C O N K N I G H T S" appear in green with a line above them. A flash of light appears, and after it fades out, the words are now white and the knight character is replaced by a redesigned version of the cube from before, now colored gray. Green electricity effects appear on the cube, and it releases a motherboard-like wave.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Wind-like sounds, a choir singing, a thunder-like sound when the flash appears. Electrical zapping sounds near the end.

Availability: Seen on Too Human.

4th Logo (September 27, 2011)

Visuals: On a black background, the version of the cube from the previous logo fades in, with electricity going through it. A sword falls from the top of the screen, going through the cube. Upon impact, electricity draws the words "SILICON KNIGHTS" from both sides of the screen towards the cube. While this happens, the words "LICENSE GROUP" fade in underneath. The logo fades out a few seconds later.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: Electrical zapping sounds, a thunderclap and an ominous choir.

Availability: Seen on X-Men: Destiny.
