Kitty Film

Background

Kitty was a Japanese media conglomerate with companies and ventures in film, television and music, founded in 1972 as the Kitty Music Corporation by former Polydor Japan producer Hidenori Taga. Kitty was known for producing a number of works such as the works of Rumiko Takahashi (Urusei Yatsura, Ranma ½ and Maison Ikoku), a number of live-action films and also becoming one of Japan's independent record labels. Following a series of major financial difficulties during the early 90s, culminating with a scandal regarding Hidenori Taga, PolyGram purchased Kitty Enterprises in 1995 and its non-music library (including their television shows) were later sold off to other companies while the remnants of the Kitty name currently remain with Kitty Corporation, a talent agency.

Animated Logo

Logo (Late 1980s-Late 1990s)

Visuals: On a blue starfield, several blue lights spin around, and while they are zooming out they reveal three copies of the light blue-outlined word "KITTY" in blocky text. The copies then merge together and clear up.

Variant:

At the end of their releases, the text zooms out after its formation and before fading out.
On some japanese releases, "ENTERPRISES" appears chyroned in, with the whole logo fading out or the logo zooming out into the starfield as it all fades out together.

Technique: A combination of camera-controlled and traditional cel animation. Done by Studio Deen.

Audio: A series of reverberating synthesized flute notes, with a synth chord as the word "KITTY" is formed. There are two shining sounds after that in the zoom-out variants.

Availability: Can be seen on VHS and DVD releases of Urusei Yatsura and Ranma ½. The "ENTERPRISES" variant appears on some Japanese releases.

Visuals: There are the words "キティ・フィルム" in bold, on a superimposed white text.

Technique: Superimposed animation.

Audio: The opening or ending theme of the show.
