Background

XLrator Media is an American film distributor founded by Barry Gordon on April 2010, who also acts as the company's CEO. In 2012, the company partnered with the Screamfest Horror Film Festival to create a horror-themed label curated by them and created their own genre film label, Macabre. In 2014, they began offering film production services working with other companies. A year after that, Macabre films became available on Hulu. XLrator Media is currently headquartered in Los Angeles, California.

Logo (January 21, 2011-)

Visuals: Over a blue smokey environment, three transparent rings zoom in quickly on the screen, along with a lens flare. The two letters "X" and "L" (in a bold Sans font, with the "X"'s left points protruding) fly out spinning and connect. The screen cuts to a close-up shot where the letters of "RATOR" (with their bottoms protruding like the "X") slide out from the "L" one by one. The camera shakes every time the letters slide out. The screen quickly zooms into the last "R" where the logo zooms out over the environment filled with flying sparks. The camera is now shaking vigorously. A leaning ring of spikes appears around "XL" and "RA" as the screen flashes twice, forming "MEDIA" below the "RATOR" text. The logo emits light beams as the logo rotates and the background moves at a fast pace. After a couple seconds, the logo flashes and a horizontal light beam spinning clockwise appears. The logo then fades out.

Variants:

  • A more detailed version exists. Here, the background is more purple, there are particles in the background, the letters are now in 3D and have a grungy texture over them. The animation is slightly slower, the sparks are harder to see and instead of zooming into the "R", the logo turns, zooms out and makes its way to its usual position. The "MEDIA" text also flies out on the logo. The background also turns black and the ring of spikes turns before the logo is engulfed in darkness.
  • A shorter version of the variant, starting at where the letters of "RATOR" are already formed, exists.
  • A still version on a white background and the logo being a purple-gradient also exists.

Technique: CGI by ChameleonDG.

Audio: A series of whooshes and slams for the first portion. An intense orchestral theme with drum hits plays in the background. When the logo flashes, the loud sound of a motorcycle revving is heard.

Audio Variant: The variant has the whooshes and slams more intense and louder, and the finals segment has a different motorcycle sound and a rising orchestral note, ending with a slam.

Availability: Seen on all XLrator releases since 2010, such as 7 Below and The Ward. The variant can be seen on other films such as Breaking Through and Superstition and the still version can be seen at the end of Superstition.
