Background

VRT 1 is a Belgian television channel, which forms part of the Flemish public broadcasting organisation Vlaamse Radio-en Televisieomroep (VRT). Originally formed in 1953, it was the first channel of NIR, which then became BRT in 1960. In 1977, it was renamed to BRT TV1 with the launch of BRT TV2. Even though BRTN TV2 became Ketnet and Canvas in 1997, it still retained its name until 2005, where it was changed to Eén. 17 years later on May 1, 2023 the channel gained its current branding.

1st ID (May 1, 2023-)

Visuals: This ident set usually consists of a set of objects forming the "1" behind a formed "vrt", which comprises of stylised text mostly made up of curved lines. The letters in the channel name may within a fixed direction to their same letters. These set of idents include, on their own:

  • A blue background where warm-colored pieces form the "1". Floating glass vertical bars are seen in the background, which flip to reveal large, pointed shards as the pieces finish forming the "1".
  • A pink background. The "1", while changing colors thanks to flying multicolored fuzzy balls, is in a fuzzy texture.
  • A sunny sky background where grassy petals blossom around the background, leaving a hole representing as the "1". A pink path of petals fly around the logo.
  • An indigo gradient background. Red, white, and blue colored ribbons are drawn around the background while the red "1" is formed.
  • A plinko-board style ident on a purple background where yellow and light-glowing balls of varying sizes fall down, many of which form the "1".
  • A blue satin background where metal, curved pieces bounce up and down on the fabric. The "1" in this case is gray.
  • A dimly lit white background where a set of pink strings wrap around the "1".
  • A light purple background. The "1" flips when the grey particles fly into the colored particles on top.
  • A pink background where the pink/blue cushions floating and compacting, angled so that specific sides of them form the "1".
  • A dark blue background where the round-shaped glasses show the "1" with colored lines, fire effect and other elements.

Variants:

  • When the idents were first unveiled, live-action people were included in the sequences, crossfading or transforming into the "1". They include:
    • A brunette female dancer in a vibrant red dress on the ribbon-themed ident. She swirls before fading out.
    • A man in light green, grass patterned clothing for the petals ident. He walks towards the screen and spins as an orange flare flashes.
    • A blonde woman in a green fuzzy sweater wearing pink pants. She catches a giant sweater-matching ball before popping out.
  • The idents may be in an alternate color scheme, which include:
    • The plinko board-themed ident's background is red.
    • The petals ident is on a dimly lit gold background with red and glowing white petals.
    • The ribbons ident is on a gold-dark purple gradient background. The ribbons are colored in the background's gradient palette.

    • The fuzz balls ident is on a purple background.

Technique: CGI animation by Gédéon. Live-action is included for the first reveal variants.

Audio: This ident package is usually comprised of digital instruments performing to create a tender jingle. It ends with the same set of notes: three ascending notes with sometimes a finishing high note.

2nd ID (December 6, 2023-)

Visuals: These idents start with a few close-ups of the "1" being formed. Then, a full shot of the forming "1" is shown followed by the same text as before fading over it. The logo is closer to the screen compared to the previous ident and there is more realism and detail put into the backgrounds, objects, and effects. The idents in this package include:

  • Orange horizontal bars sliding in to form the "1" on a wooden piece background comprised of multiple, desaturated bright colors. Sunlight passes through a window to engulf most of the background and logo.
  • Metal, rough edged plates forming on top of one another on top of a lake against a tan sky and mountains in the distance.
  • Orange/tan cushions floating and compacting, angled so that specific sides of them form the "1".
  • The "1" in a glass texture falling on a light blue grassy surface, pressing on a small portion of it as thorns grow out of the number.

Technique: CGI animation by Gédéon.

Audio: Same as before.
