Background

This is Sandy King's production company. It produced two John Carpenter movies, Vampires and Ghosts of Mars; both were released by Sony Pictures Entertainment (Vampires was released by Columbia Pictures and co-produced by Largo Entertainment, while Ghosts of Mars was released by Screen Gems Pictures). Neither film was critically nor financially successful; the failure of Ghosts of Mars in particular led Carpenter to leave Hollywood for good. While Carpenter would later stage a comeback of sorts (directing The Ward and more recently producing the Peacock original series Suburban Screams), Storm King was in dormancy in between the release of Ghosts of Mars and the debut of Suburban Screams, which is also produced by the company.

1st Logo (October 30, 1998-August 24, 2001)

Visuals: A quickly-spinning film reel pops out on a black background. A filmstrip spills out of the reel. As the reel continues spinning and spilling the filmstrip, the camera zooms out until the film reel is at an comfortable distance. Lightning strikes the reel, and the filmstrip immediately becomes a white lightning bolt. At the same time, the reel stops spinning and it and the bolt are contained within a blue box; almost the whole reel is cropped off by the box. What is left of the reel glows white. Below the box, the blue words

S T O R M K I N G
PRODUCTIONS

appear in a serif font. "S T O R M K I N G" is larger than "PRODUCTIONS", and the letters in "S T R O M K I N G" are spaced apart. There is also a large gap between "S T O R M" and "K I N G". The words have a white drop shadow.

Variant: A still variant appears on AMC's print of Ghosts of Mars and at the end of Vampires (including BBC America's print).

Technique: It appears to be CGI.

Audio: The closing theme of the film.

Availability: Only known to appear at the end of John Carpenter's Vampires and Ghosts of Mars.

2nd Logo (October 13, 2023-)

Visuals: Over the closing scene of a episode of Suburban Screams and near the bottom of the screen, a black rectangle is seen. Inside the rectangle is a white square with a black lightning bolt. Next to the square is a white rectangle outline with the following words inside:

STORM KING
P R O D U C T I O N S

Aside from cutting effects, the logo is still.

Technique: A still, digitally superimposed graphic.

Audio: The closing theme.

Availability: Seen on Suburban Screams.
