Sid & Marty Krofft Television Productions

Background

Sid & Marty Krofft Television Productions was the production company of Sid Krofft (b. July 30, 1929) and Marty Krofft (b. April 9, 1937), a Canadian sibling duo of puppeteers, writers, and television creators. The company produced numerous children's television and variety show programs in the United States, particularly in the 1970s and early 1980s, some examples including H.R. Pufnstuf, Land of the Lost, The Bugaloos, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, and Lidsville. The style of their fantasy programs are known for often featuring large-headed puppets, high-concept plots, and their extensive use of low-budget special effects. The Krofft brothers continued to work together until Marty's death in 2023.

Logo (September 6, 1969-December 4, 1976, September 22, 1984-1985, 2001)

Visuals: A background with many blacked-out words and sections, save for some spaces which are already colored light blue, is seen. Then various parts of the background are filled in with greens, oranges, and reds until we get a psychedelic-like background and the words "SID & MARTY KROFFT TELEVISION PRODUCTIONS" stacked on top of each other visible. All are in a disjointed sans font with pink tendrils coming off of "KROFFT" and "PRODUCTIONS" that have a "3D" look to it, and get filled in one-by-one from top to bottom (except for "KROFFT", which fills in first).

Technique: Traditional animation.

Audio: There are three main music variants used on this logo:

1969-1970, 2001: A twiddling saxophone/xylophone theme ending in a dramatic jazz stinger. On at least a couple of H.R. Pufnstuf episodes, the sound of canned whistles and applause can be heard obscuring the music (carried over from the end of the closing credits).
1970-1971: A series of "glug-glug-glug" sounds with 2 sets of 4 ascending synthesized chimes; the second one is much faster. It's similar to the music used in the Viacom "Pinball" logo.
1971-1976: Same as before, except with different notes used at the end.
1984: A very odd synthesized version of the 1969 jingle with an Aphex Twin-style stuttering snare drum after the first few notes.
In later years, the closing theme of the show was used.

Availability: This logo's last known sighting on TV in recent years was when Me-TV showed H.R. Pufnstuf in late 2013 (the logo is also present on DVDs of this show). DVDs of the original 1970s version of Land of the Lost retain this logo. This can also be seen on The Krofft Supershow, Pryor's Place, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, The All Star Rock 'n' Wrestling Saturday Spectacular, The Patti LaBelle Show, and the failed pilot of the 2001 remake of Electra Woman and Dyna Girl.
