Background

RTP2 is the second television channel of Rádio e Televisão de Portugal, the public broadcasting corporation of Portugal.

1st Logo (October 16, 1978-March 7, 1980)

Logo: The logo starts with various white, curving lines forming a stylised "2" rapidly flashing on a black background, which eventually fades away after a while. It cuts to another segment where we see a line forming an abstract, stylised "rtp" letter by letter, with a fragment of the "t" forming the aforementioned "2", along with "RTP/2" in the same format as the RTP1 logo from the same year appearing underneath, forming the RTP2 logo. As it appears, multiple thin black lines appear within the "rtp". This is followed by one of the curvy lines from the beginning of the logo forming a "2" appearing and then crossfading back to the rtp logo, along with another curvy line also forming the "2" performing the same action as before, and as it crossfades to the "rtp", it abruptly disappears, only leaving the "2" and "RTP/2". Finally, when the "2" disappears, the same "rtp" but with the same line pattern and with the stem of the "t" remaining white appears one by one, along with the stem of the "2" appearing underneath, and the same "RTP/2" appearing underneath the "rtp2" logo. The entire logo turns solid white afterward.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: See the 2nd RTP1 logo.

2nd Logo (March 7, 1980-February 1981)

Logo: Same as the 1980 RTP1 logo, but the entire logo is white and the "1" is replaced by the number "2".

Technique: See the 3rd RTP1 logo.

Audio: See the 3rd RTP1 logo.

3rd Logo (February 1981-March 21, 1983)

Logo: Same as the RTP1 logo from 1981 but this time, the blue box is not present and the entire logo is red this time. The "1" is also replaced with the number "2".

Technique: See the 4th RTP1 logo.

Audio: See the 4th RTP1 logo.

4th Logo (March 21-July 1983)

Logo: We see a mass of orange lines rise up from the screen, forming a stylized "2" with a yellow parallelogram on the side. Another "2 appears behind the first one, making it three-dimensional. "RTP" in teal fades in next to it.

Technique: Choppy cel animation.

Audio: "Electrosonic IDs and Logos #7" by Richard Sanders.

5th Logo (1983-October 13, 1986)

Logo: On a black/dark blue gradient background, we see a light blue light zoom out. This light is revealed to be a tunnel, as the camera pans inside it. It quickly zooms in as an abstract red "2" forms. The letters "RTP" in blue wipe in as a faint light passes by.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: It begins with a synth atmospheric-type noise, which abruptly segues into a loud three-note synthesized "orchestra", for a lack of better term. Three dark synthesized piano notes follow, with the same orchestra notes repeating as the channel name wipes in.
