Philistine Films

Background

Philistine Films is an independent film production company established in 1997 and based in both Palestine and Jordan. It was founded by Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir. The company's primary focus lies in the development and co-production of independent feature and documentary films, aiming to discover unconventional stories and fresh narratives. By doing so, they hope to address the creative, financial, and practical challenges faced by filmmakers operating outside the mainstream.

Philistine Films has gained recognition for its interest in thought-provoking and original movies, showcasing filmmakers with distinctive visions. It has earned a reputable position in the region's independent cinema, producing films for both large and small screens. Their films have been selected for prestigious film festivals, including Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Toronto, and Tribeca, receiving various accolades and awards.

Philistine Films have successfully curated film festivals and screenings to promote Palestinian cinema, most notably the Dreams of a Nation traveling film festival and database. In 2011, Philistine Films proudly hosted internationally acclaimed director Ken Loach for his historic visit to Ramallah.

1st Logo (2010)

Visuals: There is a print version of the Philistine Films logo; the narrow text "Philistine Films", with "Films" turned -90 degrees. The text is flanked by "فيلم فلسطيني", with "فلسطيني" below "Philistine" and "فيلم" (also turned -90 degrees) next to "Films". Both of the letters "ف" from both "فلسطيني" and "فيلم" are connected and stylized like a film projector with a pull switch dangling from it. The letter "م" from "فيلم" is connected to the "l" from the word "Films". All of this is in black inside a white square.

2nd Logo (2012-)

Visuals: Over a black background, there is the logo from before in light gray and without the square. The logo gives off a slight glow. The pull switch from the "projector" gets pulled, causing the two reels embedded in both of the letters "ف" to spin. As this happens, the logo zooms back slowly.
