From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

Background

ORF 1 is the primary channel from the Austrian public broadcaster ORF.

1st ID (1979-1987)

Visuals: On a black background, there is an orange segmented number 1 on the right side of the screen.

Variant: Starting in 1984, the 1 has fewer segments and has a drop shadow behind it.

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio: None.

2nd ID (1987-1990)

Visuals: On a blue background, there are two yellow shapes fly onto the right side of the screen and create the segmented 1 from before. The ORF logo of the time fades in in the top corner.

Technique: Very simple CGI, but acceptable for the time period.

Audio: A majestic fanfare.

3rd ID (1990-1992)

Visuals: Same as before, but this time the background is black, the 1 is made of glass, the ORF logo is updated to have the eye symbol and the logo is still.

Technique: Just the fading in and out.

Audio: None.

4th ID (1992-2000)

Visuals: Over a blue background is shadows of the ORF eye symbol and the number 1 rotating. A rectangle with "ORF 1" fades in, with "1" in a chartreuse box.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: An abridged version of the Zeit im Bild theme.

5th ID (2000-2007)

Visuals: On a cloudy white background, there is a lime square with a hole shaped like the number 1 move around.

Variants: The break bumpers have people doing various activities beside the 1 square.

Technique: CGI. A mix of both CGI and live-action for the break bumpers.

Audio: A drum and bass theme. Sometimes has a friendly-sounding six-note synth tune.

6th ID (2007-2011)

Visuals: Same as before, but on a futuristic lime background.

Variants: For the break bumper, the 1 square is beside a trail with the word "W E R B U N G". The camera pans to the trail, and another square passes through the trail, shrinking it in the process. Sometimes a preview of a programme would be shown before this animation.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A futuristic new-age theme.

Legacy: These idents seem to follow computer design trends of the time, and would not feel out of place with the Frutiger Aero design language.

7th ID (2011-2019)

Visuals: Over a dark teal-black gradient background is the right half of the screen being covered with a dark teal rectangle with multiple copies of the word "eins" scrolling. The ORF logo slides down the left side of the rectangle and settles in place, causing the scrolling to stop. The rectangle on the right shrinks into one of the "eins" copies, causing it to light up.

Variants: There are idents containing scenes of different people saying "eins" while a similar animation to the main ident plays on the right side of the screen.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A techno theme and a voice whispering "eins".

8th ID (2019-)

Visuals: On a coloured background, the ORF logo, now in white, forms itself into the center and a blocky 1 draws itself clockwise.

Technique: Simple animation.

Audio: A five-note theme.
