Millar Gough Ink

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

Revision as of 02:03, 13 January 2022 by imported>Chace1204 (I hope that 1999 part of Music/sound has "After Silver Pictures Television logo before this logo" right there. Also i added cartoon ditty's AKA thing in Music/Sounds. Would you edit this page some more?)

Background

The company was founded in 1997, Millar Gough Ink is the brand of the duo's Walt Disney-based production company of Miles Millar and Alfred Gough.

1st Logo (October 12, 1999-November 10, 2011)

Nicknames: "Orange-Red Ink", "Ink Bottle Gets the Banhammer", "Falling Hammer", "(silent) SPLAT!!"

Logo: In an office setting, at the forefront, we see a bottle filled with orange red ink labeled:

MILLAR
GOUGH
INK

The text is written in yellow, with the bottom half of "INK" colored silver. After a while, a hammer (which, if you look very closely, can be seen in the reflection on the bottle) falls on top and breaks the orange red ink bottle. The hammer causes the orange red ink to fly everywhere and cover up the screen. One second later, it abruptly cuts to the next logo or split-screen logo.

Variant: On the short-lived show The Strip, 2003 DVD releases and The WB (mostly, The WB aired Smallville in Philadelphia in 2001) and Channel 4 and E4 UK airings of season 1 and 4:3 prints of all episodes of Smallville, the logo is shown in full-screen.

FX/SFX: The hammer smashing the ink bottle, the ink spreading. It's all live-action.

Music/Sounds:

  • 1999: After the Silver Pictures Television logo with the closing theme of the short-lived show The Strip plays, there is a splattering sound, but without the bottle breaking sound.
  • 2001-2002: Just the sound of the bottle breaking. The closing theme of the show may also be played before the bottle breaking sound.
  • 2001-2002 Variant: On the season 1 episodes "X-Ray" and "Hug" of Smallville, the logo is silent.
  • Early 2002: An odd, short piano tune with an eerie sound effect is played in the background before the bottle breaking sound.
  • 2002-2011: A reverberating cartoon ditty, also known as the more familiar jingle, is played in the background before the bottle breaking sound.
  • On the early season 2 episodes of Smallville, the reverberating cartoon ditty is somewhat slightly quieter playing in the background before the bottle breaking sound appears.

Availability: First seen on the short-lived show The Strip. Also seen on Smallville and the 2011 version of Charlie's Angels. Don't expect this on the company's films, though. The logo is expected to appear on the 2009 film Hannah Montana: The Movie and the 2012 action film Bullet To The Head (the logo does not appear on the company's films).

Editor's Note: While the sound of the bottle breaking can be startling for some people (especially the version with no music where the hammer breaks the bottle with no warning, which could be jarring to many people), some people may find this logo even funny, and it may be favored for some of the fans of Smallville.

2nd Logo (November 15, 2015, May, 2019-2022?)

Logo: On a black background, we see the stacked words "MILLAR GOUGH". To the right of it is a red beaker with a big black teardrop of "INK" in it, and inside the drop is the word "INK".

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: None, or the end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on Into the Badlands and The Shannara Chronicles. This logo is expected to appear on the 2022 upcoming show Wednesday.

Editor's Note: None.
