Background

The Media Development Authority (MDA) was a statutory board of the Singapore Government, under the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI). MDA was formed on January 1st, 2003, which was later dissolved on October 1, 2016 with CEO founder Gabriel Lim, and Niam Chiem Meng, Chairman. It merged with the Infocomm Development Authority to form Infocomm Media Development Authority.

Singapore Broadcasting Authority

Logo (2001-2003)

Visuals: There is the Singapore Broadcasting Authority (SBA) logo which consists of a blue/red streaked curved comet touching a red dot to the far left side out of behind of the letter "S", and the "SBA" text appears in front and inside of the red comet and dot on the left. The letters:

S B A

all space out together and spread their position to match the pace for these outer designs for this logo, respectively. The logo draws itself in, and shines.

Variants: Above might appear text in one of Singapore's official languages, like Tamil.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None, or the closing theme of the show.

Availability: This is used on older SBA produced shows. Currently, it's only known on-screen appearances are the Tamil TV series Ottam and the English series Restless, both from 2001; only the Tamil version has surfaced online.

Media Development Authority

1st Logo (2003-2011?)

Visuals: There is rectangles in pink, blue, and purple sliding in from the left and right sides of the screen. The text "mda" slides in letter-by-letter from the right side and settle into place. The rectangles disappear and "Media Development Authority" fades in below.

Variants:

  • On some of the company's shows from the era, the logo can also be still and superimposed on the show's closing credits.
  • On the end credits on episodes of Rob the Robot on TVOntario, the logo is still and superimposed inside a white rectangular box background which takes place somewhat on a galaxy setting.
  • The black background superimposed variant can be seen on shows such as like Mr. Moon, and all other related contents from the period.
  • On some shows, the website URL in either black or white appears below the logo, along with IAW info in English or Mandarin.
  • The logo is a still version of the final product on some shows and movies. Sometimes, the still logo has a white background.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: A chime theme. Otherwise, the closing theme of the show or silence.

Availability: It can be seen on many Singapore TV programmes from the era. The in-credit/still logo variants can also be on international MDA produced shows, such as Rob The Robot, Mr. Moon, Ruff-Ruff, Tweet & Dave, and others.

2nd Logo (2011-2016)

Visuals: The logo is now in CGI and forms out of 3D glass rectangles. The accompanying text fades in after the logo settles.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A slowed, reworked version of the theme from the last logo.

Audio Variant: On some shows, it uses the audio from the last logo, with the logo itself sped-up to compensate (possibly due to an error).

Availability: Seen on most Singaporean programmes from 2011-2016, which can be accessed on MeWatch.

Infocomm Media Development Authority

Visuals: The sequence starts with a red rectangle on a black background. The rectangle opens up like a door, forming the "I" in the logo, and a purple triangle flies out. The shapes move to the left and the triangle splits forming two more triangles, which slide into place, forming the "M" in the logo. "INFOCOMM MEDIA DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY" in purple slides in from the left, line-by-line.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: A short piano theme.
