ITI Home Video

Background

This was a video division of the largest Polish media conglomerate Grupa ITI, founded in 1984. In 2006 it was renamed to TVN after the commercial television network, in which ITI purchased a majority stake.

1st Logo (1984-1991)

Visuals: On a black background, the letters "iti" (both "i"s are colored white, and the "t" is red), in lower-case form, italicized and in a strip-made futuristic font drop down one by one and "HOME VIDEO" flips up next to them in a plain font.

Variant: Previously it just had the text "ITI VIDEO" and "przedstawia" arranged in a haphazard way. These later appear as the copyright screen after the warning, but referred to as "ITI HOME VIDEO".

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: Three quick "whoosh" sounds much like those of a F1 car racing by, then a gong crash.

Availability: Seen on VHS tapes from Poland, mostly CIC Video, RCA/Columbia, and Warner Home Video releases. [Examples?]

2nd Logo (1991-2004)

Visuals: On a space background with flashing purple stars, the ITI logo zooms out, going through the "t", with the logo on its side, then, turning counter-clockwise until it positions itself, while the 3D look of it condenses. 2 laser from above and 4 laser from the right pass right through, and "HOME VIDEO" grows into place. When it's done, the background stops moving and it goes to the warning screen, in which when it finishes, it flips to a smaller version of the logo with a copyright date next to it.

Variants:

  • Since 1997, the ITI strips aren't rounded, "home video" is in a different font and lower case, and the logo is now in the center instead at the bottom. The background is also static.
  • On the same space background the ITI logo is static with a 3D text "PROPONUJE" zooming in on the bottom, then stopping.
  • The Polish VHS release of Hard to Kill had also silent static gray screens with ITI logo and white warning text "Wszelkie prawa zastrzeżone" over the logo that appeared during the film. It was probably some kind of anti-piracy measure.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A droning synthesizer tune with laser zaps.

Availability: Seen on '90s VHS releases and early DVD's from ITI. It was seen on the DVD of Młode Wilki 2.

Legacy: Starting in 2001, most releases use the 1st ITI Cinema logo.

3rd Logo (2004-2006)

Visuals: On a white background, three parallelograms with one colored in gold and two in grey fly around, forming the new Grupa ITI shield logo having "home video" wiping next to it. A shadowy DVD moves past in process.

Variant: VHS releases have a transparent lined videotape in place of the disc, so the formation of the shield is visible.

Technique: CGI combined with 2D animation.

Audio: Same as the 2004 ITI Cinema logo.

Availability: It was seen on later Polish releases.
