Background
The iPod is a discontinued series of portable media players and multi-purpose mobile devices designed and marketed by Apple Inc. The first version was released on October 23, 2001, about 8 and a half months after the Macintosh version of iTunes was released. Apple sold an estimated 450 million iPod products as of 2022.
Apple discontinued the iPod product line on May 10, 2022. At over 20 years, the iPod brand is the oldest to be discontinued by Apple.
1st Logo (November 10, 2001-February 23, 2005 [last release])
Visuals: On a white background, there is a solid black Apple logo.
Variants: A variant is known to exist with the "iPod" text.
Technique: A still digital graphic.
Audio: None.
Availability: Can be seen on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Gen iPod Classics, as well as both iPod Mini models.
2nd Logo (October 26, 2004-September 9, 2009 [last release], September 9, 2014 [discontinued])
Visuals: On a black background, there is a glossy white Apple logo.
Technique: A still digital graphic.
Audio: None.
Availability: Can be seen on the iPod Photo, 5th & 6th Gen iPod Classics, and the iPod Nano line.
Final Note
On September 9, 2014, Apple discontinued the iPod Classic, according to Tim Cook speaking at WSJD Live, the iPod Classic was discontinued because the parts (namely the hard drives) were unavailable and a redesign was unwarranted given the small amount of consumer interest in the product. Since the iPod Touch models all run iOS, these screens are not seen on those models, with the final iPod Touch model (and thus iPod model as a whole) being the 7th Generation model.
