Background

Goldhil Home Media Entertainment (or Goldhil Video) was a video distributor founded in 1991 and was based in Thousand Oaks, California. They distributed various educational and other media to home video until 2008 when they were absorbed into Cerebellum Corporation.

1st Logo (1991-2003)

Logo: On a black background, we see a shiny pastel green ray of light shine forth and morph into a semicircle, complete with a gold arc over it. The words "GOLDHIL VIDEO" in a gold Friz Quadrata font appears below.

Variant: Sometimes, a URL of the company's website will appear underneath the logo in a white Helvetica font.

Technique: CGI.

Music/Sounds: An albeit brief synthesized choir riff with a somewhat high-pitched synth stinger at the end.

Availability: It can be found on Goldhil Video VHS releases such as tapes of The Big Comfy Couch.

2nd Logo (1999?-2003)

Logo: On a white background, the green text "GOLDHIL DVD" in all caps swings in like a door, the text www.goldhil.com fades in and the gold arc semicircle from the Goldhil Video logo forms from left to right, the logo shines and then a flock of birds fly out of the logo, the logo then fades out from the white background.

Technique: Computer animation.

Music/Sounds: It starts with a rising note, and a clang is heard when the text comes together, a soft whoosh when the semicircle forms, then a 6 note theme that repeats and then the sounds of birds squawking and flapping their wings when they fly out of the logo.

Availability: As of writing, it's only known to appear on DVD releases of PBS's America's Historic Steam Railroads (which isn't surprising since Goldhil Video released the show on VHS) under the name Great Trains of America, it's unknown what else it appeared on though, it might have appeared on DVD releases of The Big Comfy Couch but this is yet to be confirmed.
