Background

Gaumont Multimedia was the original video game and animation studio division of Gaumont, founded in 1995 by Marc du Pontavice. He left the company in 1999 to launch Xilam with his wife Alix, who would then purchase Gaumont's animated works the following year. Gaumont continued to distribute Xilam's properties until 2003, while Gaumont Multimédia continued on as a video game company until its closure in 2004.

1st Logo (September 14, 1996-February 11, 2000)

Logo: Just the 2nd half of the 1995-2003 Gaumont logo.

Technique: Same as the 1995 Gaumont logo.

Music/Sounds: The last three notes of Gaumont's 1995 fanfare.

Music/Sounds Variant: On the US airing of Space Goofs on both Fox Kids and VHS, the music is a bit lower-pitched.

Availability:

  • Can be seen on the animated series Sky Dancers, Dragon Flyz, The Magician, and original prints of Season 1 of both Space Goofs and Oggy and the Cockroaches, respectively.
  • However, this does not appear on recent reprints for the latter two shows, instead being replaced by the Xilam logo.

Legacy: Same as the 1995 Gaumont logo.

2nd Logo (September 6, 1997-April 5, 2003)

Logo: We see the 1950s Gaumont "Sun Globe" logo over a space background (styled differently depending on the show). The inscription on the filmstrip also depends on the show.

Variants: The logo differs depending on the show:

  • Space Goofs: The logo is still, teal-tinted and the filmstrip reads "GAUMONT MULTIMEDIA PRESENTS" (in English) or "GAUMONT MULTIMEDIA PRESENTE" (in French) stacked. The Space Goofs' UFO flies over it, and the logo segues into the opening sequence.
  • Oggy and the Cockroaches: The logo is animated and starts by zooming into the screen. The globe is darker and the filmstrip reads "GAUMONT MULTIMEDIA PRESENTS" (in English) or "GAUMONT MULTIMEDIA PRESENTE" (in French) stacked. The logo then gets popped like a balloon by Joey (the purple cockroach from the show), making it fly for a while until it hits the screen. The opening sequence starts later.

Technique: Depends on the show.

Music/Sounds: For Space Goofs, the opening theme. For Oggy and the Cockroaches, a bombastic hit is heard which segues into the opening theme.

Availability: Seen on original prints of Season 1 of both Space Goofs and Oggy and the Cockroaches. Later airings remove the mention of Gaumont Multimedia and replaces them with Xilam; the globes however remain the same.

Legacy: The text on the Space Goofs variant was originally supposed to read "A Gaumont Multimedia Production" according to a behind-the-scenes featurette on a VHS release of said show. This was eventually changed later on.

3rd Logo (September 30, 1998-July 29, 1999)

Logo: It's a still version of the 1995-2011 Gaumont logo, but with "Multimédia" below the Gaumont text.

Variants: The logo differs depending on the media.

  • The Fifth Element (video game): The logo starts with the main "5th element" symbol, carved into a marble background. The symbol then glows white and flashes, bringing forth the logo stretching in before focusing into place. The logo glows and shines as the background zooms in behind it.
  • The Magician: On a sky blue background, the logo, now fully in gold, swings in from below and zooms out. As it pans down to the opening credits, it flies up and "Presents" fades in.

Technique: Depends on the variant.

Music/Sounds: The opening theme.

Availability: Seen on the Fox Kids print of The Magician and the video game adaptation of The Fifth Element.
