I have found an old Nigerian TV ident from 1975, which is located at https://broadwcast.org/index.php/File:BPTVpix.JPG In the image in the link above, you can see a TV ident on two of the screens. The ident is from a TV station called Benue-Plateau Television (BPTV), which was one of the regional TV stations that predated NTA (formerly Nigerian Television) in 1977. This file was uploaded back in May 2012, but I have not found it until almost 11 years later. It's even older than the Nigerian Television ident from 1977 that was found by TeleRarities! I urge somebody to upload this file, since I am pretty bad at uploading files. Unfortunately, this is only the first time that a pre-NTA TV ident has been found. In particular, there is no TV ident from any of the other local TV stations yet as of now (WNTV, ENTV, RKTV, NBC-TV, ENTV, MidWest TV, River State TV, and NWT). There is a description of the first WNTV ident (and the very first TV ident from Nigeria) from the station's launch in October 31, 1959 that I have seen on several Nigerian websites, but unfortunately no photo has been found. What a valuable piece of Nigerian history this ident would be. The description says: "It was a nice Saturday night on October 31, 1959. People were settling in their beds, when suddenly their TV screens lit up. The logo on the screen said ‘Western Nigeria Television’, or WNTV for short. That logo signified the success of Obafemi Awolowo, then-Premier of the Western Nigerian Region and of Anthony Enahoro, then-Minister of information." Other than the text on the logo, it doesn't state any further details. This means that we can't make an effective reconstruction of the ident :( |
