Forum:Is the 3rd Universal logo a fake?

With the new rule that appeared today, there's one capture that has been bugging my mind for a long time (and is still on this wiki). It's the capture of the 3rd Universal logo (the checkered Saturn Globe), which has been on the wiki since forever. It has unknown origins and looks like a newspaper clipping rather than an onscreen logo. We have a history of old CLG captures being exposed as fake/mockups (TAT, KingWorld, blurry P-Head), so is it possible that this 3rd Universal logo could be a fraud too? I brought up this issue on the Universal page's talk page and no one has responded, so thought I'd bring it up here.

Barely looks like it appeared at the end or start of the film. Since Universal's early years are very scarce since they were founded 110 years ago (the 100 years logo was introduced 10 years ago), it's unknown if it was ever a real opening/closing logo.

From what I know, that logo apparently appeared in TCM's Sunday Mornings.

As for the photo, this can probably be theorized by looking at old Wikifoundry revisions to see when exactly it was added to the wiki. That way we could also figure out how old the capture is and possibly if the logo is real or not based on further evidence (threads, etc.)

Another possibility is that it was in the Yahoo Groups threads, which are mostly long gone at this point.

Alright, I have gathered a bit of information about those WF revisions. I will tell everything I can about what

It didn't lead to me much, but it seems to be a capture addition from 2008 or earlier.

I found the oldest revision I could, and it happens to be revision 49. This has an.. interesting description. https://web.archive.org/web/20080128090300/http://www.closinglogos.com/page/Universal+Pictures

Another unfortunate thing about this is that there was no threads pointing anything out, meaning it has been lost to time. (It's likely been discussed in Yahoo forums, which are impossible to access nowadays)

All I can say is, this definetly is an old discovery.

Ahh, V of Doom, back when the CLG Wiki was just a simple community.

Exactly my point. 1920s logos are filmed. The capture we have doesn't look filmed, doesn't seem like it came from a filmstrip either. It's obviously a print version of the 1st logo and it probably came from a newspaper or a letter.

Here's another version of the print logo from a letter (1915): https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/1915-hollywood-universal-film-films-474064753
