Background

Five Life, Five's first offshoot digital channel, launched on October 15, 2006 with a schedule aimed primarily at a female audience. It relaunched as Fiver on April 28, 2008.

ID (October 15, 2006-April 27, 2008)

Visuals: The ident consists of multiple screens showing a clip of an activity as "five" (from the 2002 Channel 5 logo), alongside with "life", fade in and slide to the bottom-left across the screens. Throughout the ident, the screens multiply themselves back and forth while the clip transitions to another activity.

Variants:

  • Camper Van/Beach: A close-up shot of an orange camper van door is first shown before it slides away as a woman is seen coming out of the van. It then fades into an interior of a van as the camera pans to the left to show the outside scenery from a window. The scene then flashes to two shots of the white/orange camper van before it flashes to the first two scenes from the next ident.
  • Beach/Bike: A close-up shot of a life belt is shown before the camera pulls back and pans to the right to reveal a couple walking in a beach while it transitions to several shots of the couple. It then transitions into a woman, wearing sunglasses and a red helmet, riding a bike as the camera pans from a close-up of a bike to a view of her before the scene flashes to reveal that she is riding the bike in a street.
  • Bike/Trike: A close-up of a bike is shown before the camera pans up to reveal a woman is riding on it, before the clip flashes to the camera pans back to a close-up of a bike, before panning back up to a woman and moves. It then flashes into two different shots of a woman riding a bike in a street before it flashes to a close-up shot of a trike on a rooftop with the camera zooming out of it and a child riding on it.
  • Trike/Surfing: A close-up of a trike is first shown as the camera starts zooming out of it. A child then rides on it, and the scene flashes to him riding the bike, before it flashes to him with his father blowing a blue pinwheel he holds as the camera pans to the window blinds before panning back. It then flashes to the surfing scene, where a close-up of a pink surfboard is shown before it's revealed that two women are going to the sea and start surfing, before transitioning to them surfing on the sea.
  • Surfing/Bowling: The camera pans down from the sky to reveal a woman on the beach. The clip then flashes to two women surfing on the sea, followed by the women swimming, before it flashes to the women chatting while sitting on their surfboards. It then transitions into a man playing bowling as the camera follows the movement of the green bowling ball, before it flashes to a shot of a bowling lane.
  • Bowling/Dog Walk: A close-up of a man's green shirt is shown before he moves away to reveal a woman, who is cheering behind him. The scene then flashes to him playing bowling, before a shot of the bowling lane and a shot of a woman follow. It then transitions to a back view of another woman walking down the street and carrying a dog, which is not shown.
  • Dog Walk/Docks: The camera pans up from a woman, who is wearing sunglasses and a red shirt, to a view of two buildings before it pans back to the woman. The clip flashes to reveal that she is walking her dog down the street as the camera follows. The scene then transitions to a close-up of a yellow umbrella, as it rises up to reveal a couple holding it while walking down the docks on a rainy evening. A back view of another couple walking while holding a blue umbrella is then shown.
  • Docks/Camper Van: A close-up shot of a yellow umbrella is shown, before it rises up to reveal a couple holding it. A shot of the docks on a rainy evening is then shown, before another couple holding a blue umbrella walk past it as the camera briefly follows. It then flashes to a shot of the yellow umbrella that is held by the first couple, before it transitions to two couples walking past. The clip then transitions to a close-up shot of an orange camper van door getting opened by the woman as the camera follows her, before flashing into various items inside the van (a tea kettle above a crate) with a woman's legs lying in as the camera pans outside.
  • Christmas idents:
    • 2006:
      • It starts off with a boy throwing snowballs. As the camera pans, it is revealed that he is having a snow fight with his father. The scene then flashes to three people throwing snowballs, before it flashes to a person skiing. It then transitions to show a glass building on a garden, as the camera pans down to show a boy and his father. The scene then flashes to show they are looking at Christmas trees before it flashes to a boy and his father walking while holding hands each other.
      • A red sledge is first shown on a snowy terrain as the camera pans up to show a person walking while dragging it, before the scene flashes to a couple on a blue sledge and a person on a red sledge having fun sledging. The scene then flashes to a light on what appears to be a stadium, before it shows a person's legs running while holding a blue sledge. It then transitions to several Christmas trees, before ends with a couple walking past the trees.
    • 2007: Snowflakes came through the logo as the logo has a snowflake texture printed on it before fading to white. Two shots of Christmas trees are shown, before it flashes to a shot of a garden, followed by a person getting up from the snow and walks. It then fades to an extreme close-up of a red sledge, the same person holding a red sledge. The ident ends with a person sledging before the scene crossfades to two people falling down from the slope. Snowflakes are also seen flying by throughout the ident.

Technique: Live-action and computer animation. The logo was designed by Precursor.

Audio: A relaxing tune with a choir at the beginning. A continuity announcer can also be heard.

Audio Variants:

  • Some idents, including the Christmas idents, have a different rendition of the theme.
  • Christmas idents:
    • 2006: A generic hip-hop tune. A pixie dust sound effect is heard throughout the first ident.
    • 2007: A whoosh at the beginning, with a rock tune in a background.
