Emperor Edutainment

Background

PT. Unggul Cipta Piranti, doing business as Emperor Edutainment and formerly Emperor Optical Disc and Emperor LaserDisc, is a home entertainment and educational video distributor from Indonesia, founded in 1994.

1st Logo (1994?-1998)

Visuals: On a black background, we cheaply pan through "EMPEROR" in a orange-gold chrome gradient color, with a silver rectangle below it. We then go towards a square from the left that has an eagle's face embedded in it. Then, the screen zooms out to reveal fully the text and the shapes altogether on-screen. "LaserDisc" abruptly appears on the rectangle, and a ball of light then goes around it. Shortly, it cheaply flashes to white before turning back to normal, with the logo slightly more shifted in than before. A lens flare fades on the top-right corner of the 2nd E, then fades out.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A dramatic synth fanfare with a contrary cymbal crash. The last note is held out, and an explosion and laser sounds are heard.

Availability: Seen on Qasidah karaoke releases from Puspita Records, such as the music video "Nabi Muhammad Mataharinya Dunia" by Nasida Ria.

2nd Logo (1998-2003)

Visuals: Takes place on a somewhat fiery, hellish sky background. A spinning sculpture of an eagle, made from glass, appears. Then, the screen zooms into the eagle's face. This cuts to the Emperor Optical Disc logo, in 3D, moving to the center. The words "OPTICAL DISC", spaced out, fade in as the background soon gets darker.

Variant: An early still version of the logo exists.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Calm, majestic synth music plays as we hear eagle screeches, thunder and jet-like "WHOOSH!" noises.

Availability: Most of Emperor VCDs during this era either go up to the warning screen, disc info screen, or go straight up to the start of the movie or program. It can still be found on old cartoon VCDs from the company, while recent prints have the next logo below. Emperor also served as the temporary Indonesian home video distributor of New Line Cinema, Miramax Films, and a few independent studios from 2000 to 2002, one of the instances of the logo's appearance being Sugar & Spice.

3rd Logo (2003-2019?)

Visuals: On a black BG, "Emperor" (in the Captain Podd font) zooms out letter-by-letter to the center of the screen, in a better looking CGI. The words ripple and have a reflection. After everything finishes, a blue orb of light appears and draws 2 glowing neon blue arcs. A CGI pen appears, writes "edutainment" onscreen, then disappears. The logo shines.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A triumphant, fast-paced stock fanfare, accompanied by whooshes and slams.

Availability: Seen on newer VCDs from Emperor. Many releases during this era, such as the 2003 VCD of Albert Asks: What Is Life?, shows the print version of previous logo on the packaging, but the main feature showed this instead.
