ERA Home Video

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

1st Logo (1980's-1990's?)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a silver-and-blue globe with a white glow rotating in the middle of the screen. A vertical row of three red lights swoop down from the top-left of the screen to the bottom-right of the screen before flying out to the middle of the globe and disappearing. This process repeats two more times with red lights with green highlights and blue lights respectively. Once the blue lights disappear, the globe glows red and, as it fades away, the logo for ERA Home Video, which consists of a white vertical rectangle with a thick, rounded, white border and a left-facing quadrant with three pieces (similarly to Rainbow Video Disc's logo) coming in green, blue and red above the text “ERA Home Video”, in black, zooms in from the center of the screen. White Chinese text then quickly fades in below the logo.

Technique: 2D and CGI. The blue and silver globe is made by Cascom, evidenced by its appearance in their Select Effects Library catalogue.

Audio: A bombastic fanfare, which is actually a snippet of the end of "The Planets - Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" by Gustav Holst.

Availability: Seen on at least one Laserdisc film, which is 惜別海岸.

2nd Logo (Early-Mid 1990's)

Visuals: On a black background, there are three ribbon-like lines, coming in red, blue and cyan, come from the sides of the screen and twist and turn about, stopping when all three of them touch each other. The tails of these lines recede until the same quadrant shape is formed, at which point, two beams shoot out and hit the shape, causing many bright sparkles to appear and reveal the ERA Home Video logo as they scatter away. A shimmering line then moves from left-to-right, leaving yellow Chinese text reading "永盛年代影視有限公司發行" behind it. The logo then sparkles and the text shimmers from left-to-right.

Technique: 2D animation, possibly done by a computer.

Audio: A whoosh sound as the lines move, a twinkly sound as the sparkles scatter, and a nine-note synth trumpet fanfare and shimmering twinkle as the yellow text is formed and the logo sparkles.

Audio Variant: There exists a low-tone version.

Availability: Seen on at least one Laserdisc film, which is Challenge to Devil Area.

3rd Logo (Mid-Late 1990's)

Visuals: On a dark blue cloudy background, there is a white glow coming from a marble ERA Home Video logo covering the screen, only to fade out as the logo zooms out farther. Then, a piece of text reading "AN ERA PRESENTATION" appears under it turning from a 90-degree angle.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None.

Availability: It can be seen on the Hong Kong VHS of Space Jam (太空也入樽).

4th Logo (Early 2000s)

Visuals: On a starry background, there is a platinum drawing of a person raising its arms inside a crudely-drawn circle with "E R A" under it. A small piece text is also shown under it reading "AN ERA PRESENTATION".

Technique: A still computerized graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: You can see it on VCDs released in Hong Kong by the company such as Chicken Run (咪走雞) and The Cat in the Hat .
