Draft:Unus Annus

Background

Unus Annus was a YouTube channel created by Markiplier and Ethan Nestor. The premise of the channel was that a new video would be uploaded daily, and then after a full year of existence, the channel would be deleted. The channel's name comes from the Latin translation of the phrase "one year".

Logo (November 14th, 2019-November 13th, 2020)

Visuals:

  • Opening: On a black background, a white timer slowly zooms into the screen, counting down as it does so. After three seconds, the video smash cuts to a black screen.
  • Closing: Just like the opening, except the timer zooms out and is on screen for longer.

Trivia: The timer in the logo indicates how long the channel had left before it would be deleted. The only exception is in Where in the World is Unus Annus?, which showed the timer having 401 days left as opposed to the actual number of 226, since that video was uploaded on April Fools Day.

Variants:

  • On Helium Therapy and the finale Goodbye. livestream, the countdown doesn't zoom.
  • On Only UNUS-es May Watch This Video (the video that marked 169 days left until the channel would be deleted), the word "BRUH!" is in the centre of the 6 and the word "SWEET!" is in the centre of the 9. A similar thing is present in the countering Only ANNUS-es May Watch This Video but with the words "DUDE!" and "NICE!" respectively. These are still present in the outro.
  • On This is Goodbye, the timer is on screen for longer than normal and Unus and Annus appear in front of it.
  • On We Finally Drank Our DIY Wine (the video that marked 69 days left until the channel would be deleted), the word "NICE" is underneath the 69. This isn't the case in the outro, though.
  • On This Video is Completely Unedited, the timer is filmed while playing on a laptop.
  • On The 1st Annual Unus Annus Roast, the timer glitches out and appears to reverse.
  • From Phasmophobia in Real Life to The Truth of Unus Annus, variants animated by GrittySugar, UltraMarine and Cranbersher were used in the intro and outro.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: Mark and Ethan chanting "Unus Annus! UNUS ANNUS!" with a rising sound and a ticking clock in the background, followed by a dramatic thud.

Audio Variants:

  • On videos edited by Diceroll, the first tick is more echoey.
  • On the videos BLACK LIVES MATTER, This is Goodbye, The Truth of Unus Annus and the finale Goodbye. livestream, the chanting is omitted.
  • On The 1st Annual Unus Annus Roast, the chant turns low pitched and is accompanied by glitchy beep-like sounds.

Availability: Was seen on all the channel's videos before its deletion.
