Rai Uno

1st Logo (1983-1985)

Nicknames: "The Ball", "Grid Ball"

Logo: On a black background, a blue ball flies in as an even bigger sky blue ball with a wireframe pattern flies into view. The ball then enters the bigger ball, flying through its yellow interior. A TV tube shape flips into view, with a black background with a white glow in the middle, and the text "RAIUNO", with "RAI" in blue and "UNO" in sky blue, flips in. The tube then fills the background and the ball fully disappears as the logo zooms out onto a blue gradient background and a sphere in the corner. A shadow slides out and the logo shines.

Variants:

  • A short version that was later introduced later in its usage starts with the ball outside of the bigger ball before fading to it entering the TV tube. The theme is the last few seconds of the normal theme.
  • An abridged version has the text zooming out as the middle of the background glows white. This has the last three notes from the Rai logo's theme at the time.

FX/SFX: The balls and screen moving, the text zooming in. Early CGI that looks quite dated.

Music/Sounds: Same as the Rai logo at the time.

Availability: Extinct.

2nd Logo (1985-1988)

Nicknames: "The Ball II", "The Filling Ball"

Logo: On a light purple background, a sphere is seen flying through some translucent tunnels, filling them with blue. The camera then zooms out of the tunnels and rotates upward to reveal the "RAIUNO" logo, along with a bunch of differently sized spheres. The logo's shadow moves a bit.

Variant: An abridged version has the logo already formed, with a single sphere flying over the logo.

FX/SFX: The camera moving, the ball moving, and the formation of the Rai text.

Music/Sounds: Same as the Rai logo at the time.

3rd Logo (1988-1993)

Nicknames: "The Ball III", "Flowers"

Logo: On a space background, we see two orange blocks with images of flowers in them and a blue ball. The blue ball moves towards the background as the camera rotates. The "RAIUNO" logo, now in silver comes down from the top orange block and moves to the center while the blue ball hides behind the "U".

FX/SFX: The camera, the ball, and the text moving.

Music/Sounds: A reorchestrated synth version of the Rai theme.

  • A longer variant exists. We see the Rai Uno logo at the bottom-left corner on a blue background, then a white piece forms the butterfly symbol with the blue background disappears and the blue butterfly symbol zooming in out the right corner on the white-blue.

FX/SFX: The background moving, the butterfly symbol zooming out, the background turning blue, the text fading in.
