Background

AVROTROS is the merger of Dutch public broadcasters AVRO and TROS. It was founded in 2014.

1st Logo (2014-2016) (opening)

Logo: On a moving live-action background (depending on the variant), we can see the transparent circle with the letter "a" spinning until it stop to the left. After the circle stops moving, the word "AVROTROS" slides from the left until it stops the right of the circle.

Variants:

  • Ballerina - We see a zoomed in of a ballerina music box that is spinning near the mirror. A sound of the ballerina figure spinning can be heard throughout.
  • Bladmuziek (Sheet music) - We see a zoomed in view of a sheet music that's laid down on a flat surface. A sound of a violin note can be heard at the end.
  • Film - We see a zoomed in view of a strip of film that was opened from a film canister. A sound of a film projector can be heard after the circle "a" zooms out to the left.
  • Kogels (Bullets) - We see a zoomed in view of a few bullets that's laid on a flat surface. The camera then moves to the right, which it reveals a mirror. A sound of the bullets being inserted into the gun and being reloaded can be heard near the end.
  • Lichtkrant (Marquee) - We see a zoomed in view of a dot matrix display-based marquee in the background that is moving to the left. A sound of a person talking can be heard at the end.
  • Microfoon (Microphone) - We see a zoomed in view of a microphone. A sound of an audience applauding can be heard at the end.
  • Paspoort (Passport) - We see a zoomed in view of a passport and a passport stamp. The camera moves to the right. A sound of a woman talking and stamping a passport can be heard at the end.
  • Spotlight - We see a zoomed in view of a light fixture, which the camera moves to the right. A sound of a light buzzing can be heard at the end.
  • Stethoscoop (Stethoscope) - TBA
  • Toneelkijker (Opera Glasses) - We see a zoomed in view of an opera glass, which the camera moves to the right. A sound of an audience applauding can be heard at the end.

Technique: A combination of live-action background footage and CGI (the circle spinning).

Music/Sounds: A relaxing guitar tune with sound effects that depend on the variant.

Availability: Extinct. It was only used until 2016.

Legacy: The logo can be somewhat relaxing due to its music and its zoomed in background.

Logo: Over the footage we see a A circle spinning then a AVROTROS text

Technique: Spinning animation.

Music/Sounds: Same as the previous logo.

3rd Logo (2016-October 1, 2020) (opening)

Logo: On a light blue background, a scattered amount of blobs of water began to move, forming the eye, which began from the cornea until the retina. As the cornea grows and explodes, a circle with the letter "a" forms and the word "AVROTROS" fades in.

Variant: In 2018, the logo was updated to include the rotating circle animation from the 4th logo.

Technique: The blobs forming the eye, the growing and explosion of the cornea and the fade in of the letter "a" and the word "AVROTROS".

  • During Christmas, the dark blue background is overlaid by snowflakes.
