Background

Cartoon Saloon is an Irish animation studio founded in 1999.

1st Logo (February 11, 2009)

Nicknames: "The Duelist"

Logo: We see a cartoon sheriff in a duelist's position. We zoom out a bit and the sheriff pulls two guns out of holsters, and shoots once from each. We rapidly zoom out as the bullets penetrate a sign. The sign reads "Cartoon Saloon" in a Western font. We then see a filmstrip containing these images run off their track. The filmstrip continues to tug out of its original position, and the logo ends. The logo then cuts to some "Cartoon Saloon" text and the badge from the next logo.

FX/SFX: Nice 2d animation.

Music/Sounds: A Western-like theme. When the bullets hit the sign, it makes a glass-breaking sound effect.

Availability: Only appears on the film The Secret of Kells.

Editor's Note: None.

2nd Logo (2015?-2018)

Nicknames: "The Sheriff's Badge"

Logo: On a blue background, we see the text "Cartoon Saloon" in a Western-like font. To the right of the text is a sheriff's badge reading "CS". The logo continues to shake slightly in a hand-drawn fashion. The logo then fades or cuts.

FX/SFX: The slight shaking and moving.

Music/Sounds: It seems like the closing theme or silence.

Availability: Rarely used, but still on the programs this appeared on.

Editor's Note: None.

3rd Logo (2018-)

Nicknames: "Scribble Text"

Logo: We see a brown/orange convoluted scribble moving towards the camera. As it does, it forms the words: "Cartoon Saloon". The logo then turns into a yellow/orange gradient.

Variant:

  • On the 2020 film Wolfwalkers, we see grainy black and white footage of a wolf running circles around the letters of the logo, before climbing over it and sitting down on the right side.

FX/SFX: 2d animation.

Music/Sounds: A xylophone-like sound with a child's laughter.

Music/Sound Variations:

  • For the Wolfwalkers variant, wolf growls and breathing can be heard.

Availability: Current.

Editor's Note: None.
