Background

The Canadian Television Fund was a non-profit organization that supports production and broadcast of Canadian television programs. Founded in 1998, their objectives are to support creation and broadcast by the Department of Canadian Heritage. Other objectives includes allocating one-third of its resources to French-programming and the other two-third to English-programming, providing development funds, and make it necessary for market to be progressed.

On April 1, 2010, the Canadian Television Fund was merged with the Canada New Media Fund and reformed as the Canadian Media Fund (known today as Canada Media Fund).

1st Logo (In-credit text)(1998-early/mid 2000s)

Visuals: Just a simple in-credit text notice that says “Produced with the participation of the Canadian Television Fund” and “created by the Government of Canada and the Canadian cable industry”. A license fee program mark is seen at the bottom, and the text is most often merely written in the same typeface as the show's credits.

Technique: Superimposed in the credits.

Audio: The ending theme of the show.

Availability: Usually seen in end credits of many TV shows produced in Canada. While the second, more well-known logo would soon be utilized later on, some shows would still continue to frequently use this version as late as the early/mid-2000s.

2nd Logo (2000?-April 1, 2010)


Visuals: Consists of the text "Canadian Television Fund" in a red font with a maple seed positioned in the left.

Variants:

  • Like the first logo, this logo is often accompanied with the text “Produced with the participation of the” over it and “created by the Government of Canada and the Canadian cable industry” underneath.
  • The maple seed will sometimes appear outlined and traced. This variant was seen on a handful of TV shows.
  • A bilingual variant exists with the name being in both English and French.
    • Additionally, a French-language only variant exists as well. Only shown in programs produced in Quebec.
  • In some instances, the logo is inside a white box.
  • On YAA! To The MAX, the logo is shown inside a red square with the maple seed imposed near the center.
  • A print version of this logo exists.
  • A rare promo reel for this organization exists.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: The ending theme of the show.

Audio Variants: The promo reel features strange mystical-like instruments of woodwinds, strings, and piano notes at the start and end.

Availability: Seen at the end of many television productions in Canada throughout the decade right until its eventual restructuring in 2010. The logo’s usage was rare to nonexistent at first, due to many shows from the time preferring the in-text version instead. One of its earliest known appearance is from season 3 of “Student Bodies”. It is unknown whether this logo debuted earlier.
