Background

C.Moon (シー・ムーン) or C.Moon Home Video was short-lived video production and distribution label owned by Bandai Visual. The company took its name from the song of the same name, "C Moon", written by Paul and Linda McCartney and performed by Wings in 1972. C.Moon was only active for less than a decade, during which they distributed works by other studios such as AIC Inc. and ArtMic.

Logo (1986-1991)

Visuals: The complete logo sequence is 12 seconds long. It opens with a black screen with one light sparkle fading into view at the top of the screen. The sparkle fades, becoming a small dot, from which two lines draw out to the left and right to make a glowing blue arc. The glowing text "C.MOON" appears letter by letter under the arc, with the period between C and MOON appearing last. Finally, the camera pulls back, and the entire logo flashes with a blue light effect. When the light recedes, the logo is now on a black semi-circle while the rest of the screen is off-white. The sequence then fades to black.

Variant: Some releases feature only a static version of the finished logo.

Technique: Painted entirely on animation cels. There are some basic light effects, which were generally done by using translucent cels and cel paint, and by using a lit rostrum table.

Audio: The logo's music was composed by Norimasa Yamanaka. It is a basic upbeat synthesizer jingle that matches the logo's light effects, particularly with a 6-note twinkle as each character of the "C.MOON" text appears on screen.

Availability: C.Moon overall had very few releases on VHS and Laserdisc. Higher quality versions of the C.Moon logo can be found on some DVD re-releases, such as A.D Police from AnimEigo and GenoCyber from U.S. Manga Corps.
