Broadsword Television

Background

Broadsword Television was a production company that was formed by Tim Child in 1987. It was best known for producing Knightmare. The company never used a logo until 1988.

1st Logo (September 5-December 19, 1988)

Visuals: On a light yellow background, there is the 1988 Anglia Television logo on top. A brown line is shown below, and then there is an outline of the sword, with the word "BROADSWORD" shown in a Times New Roman font. Below it was the word "PRODUCTION for ANGLIA TELEVISION", along with a copyright date.

Technique: A still, printed image.

Audio: The end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen only on the second series of Knightmare, which was kept intact on Challenge.

2nd Logo (September 8, 1989-December 21, 1990)

Visuals: On a black background, there is the gray shadowy word "BROADSWORD", along with "A" and "Production for" above and below the text. Below that it was the stacked words "ANGLIA TELEVISION", in a serif font, along with a copyright date. A golden sword slides in and stops at the right side of the text.

Variant: On The Satellite Game, the logo is still. Also, "A" and "Production for" are smaller, and are closer to the "BROADSWORD" text. Instead of "ANGLIA TELEVISION", there is the word "BRITISH SATELLITE BROADCASTING" in white, and a copyright date.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: A whoosh sound, followed by a clang when the sword slides in. On The Satellite Game, the end theme plays over.

Availability: Seen on Series 3-4 of Knightmare, and The Satellite Game.

3rd Logo (September 6, 1991-February 3, 1995)

Visuals: On a black background, there is the silver CGI word "BROADSWORD". A CGI version of the sword slides in as the camera pans out to the center and the logo then zooms out. The word "Production for", along with station info for either Anglia Television or BBC (with the 1988 BBC logo), along with a copyright date is shown below.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Same as before, only the clang is a bit enhanced.

Availability: Seen on later episodes of Knightmare, as well as Cyberzone, Virtually Impossible and Time Busters.
