Background

Black Label Media is an independent film and television company based in Los Angeles that was founded by Molly Smith and Thad Luckinbill in 2013. The company was initially called Belle Pictures before a name change in order to focus on adult, mid-budget fare. Its company name was taken from the American Express Centurion "Black Card". On April 12, 2016, the company opened a television division.

1st Logo (June 27-October 3, 2014)

Logo: We see a growing sun burst lighting up the whole screen inside the bottom half of a letter. Next, the text and the sunburst zoom out to reveal "BLACK LABEL MEDIA" in black. As the logo finishes zooming out, the light in the sunburst dies out and disappears, leaving a gray radial gradient in the center with the upper portion of the text lighted. The text then zooms out a little more alongside the reflection slightly moving towards the left.

FX/SFX: Rather basic 3D animation.

Music/Sounds: The opening of the movie.

Availability: Very rare. This was only seen on two movies: Begin Again and The Good Lie.

2nd Logo (September 18, 2015-)

Logo: On a black background, we see multiple shapes emerging from various places on the screen on a gray background. As we zoom out, the shapes appear to be a reflection of one of the larger objects emerging from the ground. Moving away from the animation more reveals a sunlight hovering over the shapes at the top, which shows "BLACK LABEL MEDIA" in black laying on the surface. The camera pans out more so that the text faces the screen, cutting off the sunlight and showing a gray radial gradient at the top portion of the text. As the logo faces the screen, the text gets brighter with shadows sticking out of them.

Variants:

  • On Only the Brave, the logo is tinted yellow with a dust filter.
  • On 12 Strong, the logo is (subtly) anaglyphic.

FX/SFX: Cool CG animation of the letters popping out of the ground.

Music/Sounds: The opening of the movie.

Availability: Common. First appeared on Sicario and can be seen on the company's films from this period including Only the Brave, 12 Strong, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, among others.
