Background

This was the news division of Baghdad Television, the main state broadcaster of the Ba'athist Iraqi government. In 2003, the network stopped operating due to damages caused by the Iraq War and the US' occupation of the Iraqi territory.

Intro (1990s-2003)

Visuals: On a black background, the flag of Iraq is shown waving and rotating at the center. It zooms to a closeup of the second green star of the flag, and then stops, as four white lights appear around the sides of the star and the center of it. The national emblem of Iraq, consisting of the golden Eagle of Saladin with a shield of the Iraqi flag at the center and a green banner at the bottom reading "جمهورية العراق", rises up from the light shown at the center, and then the screen cuts to the same emblem zooming out. Once it settles, a flash appears behind it, and the background fades into a sunset ocean horizon with the waving flag of Iraq slightly visible at the top-right. The orange metallic text "أهم الاخبار" appears zooming out and rotating vertically from the center to the bottom of the emblem.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: An excerpt of "Acroyali/Standing In Motion" by Yanni.
