Bada

Background

Bada is a discontinued mobile operating system developed by Samsung Electronics for smartphones and tablet computers. The name is derived from "바다 (bada)", meaning "ocean" or "sea" in Korean. All phones running Bada were branded with the name Wave, unlike Samsung's Galaxy line of Android devices. Bada only had a small percentage of the smartphone OS market share, peaking at 3% sales in Q3 2012. In June 2012, Samsung announced its intention to merge Bada into the Tizen project. On 25 February 2013, Samsung announced that it would stop developing Bada, moving development to Tizen instead.

1st Logo (June 2010-2011)

Visuals:

Startup: A blue background fades in, and multiple aurora-like lights and particles are seen forming and moving. As a flare passes, the word "bada" emerges, with the lights being reflected in a blue tint. The lights and background then dim, and the "www.samsungmobile.com" URL appears in white below the logo.
Shutdown: The "bada" text is shown on the blue background with aurora lights and particles. It becomes transparent as the reflection appears in its fill. The background then fades out.

Technique: CGI.

Audio:

Startup: An airy synth with a descending windchime at the start, a "ping" synth, and a 7-note bell theme, ending with a waterdrop sound.
Shutdown: The "ping" synth, followed by the waterdrop sound.

Audio Variants:

Some devices would feature a different shutdown sound, consisting of the 7-note bell theme playing alongside a synth playing a different note.
Some carriers, like South Korea's SK Telecom, will have their startup and shutdown themes playing along with the Bada animations.

Availability: Seen on phones with Bada 1.0, debuting with the Wave S8500.

2nd Logo (October 2011-Febraury 28, 2013)

Visuals:

Startup: On a blue environment, a blue flash appears and two lights appear drawing in a spinning segmented circular outline, in two different shades. As the circle is fully formed dust particles are shown coming out. "bada" in a blue gradient then emerges from dust particles next to the logo, and the particles fly away as they're both completed.
Shutdown: Starts with the Bada logo already formed. The logo then draws out in a similar fashion, with the text dissolving. Then the background fades out.

Technique: CGI.

Audio:

Startup: A high, echoing pindrop sound, followed by the trademark 5-note "Over the Horizon" theme, with a windchime playing at the last note. This would be later used for the Galaxy S3 startup, but with a slower pace and without the windchime.
Shutdown: None.

Availability: Seen on phones with Bada 2.0, debuting with the Wave III S8600. Only a few Bada 1.0 phones can be updated to this version.
