AVID:Requests for Comment/Make editing apply-only

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

I know this sounds bad but hear me out. I think applying to be an editor would cut down on blank pages, edit warring and general edits that should not be on pages. Wikipedia is known for not being the most reliable source of information, largely thanks to anyone being able to edit the wiki at any time. We also allow anybody to edit pages, and this can often result in the aforementioned annoyances that often plague the wiki. I feel like making it so you have to apply to be an editor would benefit the wiki a lot.

Abstain

Abstain. I'm currently inclined closer towards Oppose due to this leaning too close to the wikifoundry days for my liking. I personally feel that requiring applications for editing permissions would ultimately be a turn off for some would-be editors. I would like to hear other opinions before I make a hard stance though. Oppose

Oppose Not only would that result in some backlash, but what are newbies supposed to do? Just look at the site? You need to edit drafts to make pages. What if someone makes a mistake on a draft/page and nobody notices? What if someone found a logo and wanted to add it to a page, but couldn't because they needed to apply? Oppose per Charlie. Sorry, but I don't want us to go back to the WikiFoundry days. Plus, the draft system already exists, making forcing new users to apply redundant. · Talk · Edits 17:17, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
