Background

Walmart first sold advertising when the company was formed. They did not use a logo until 1977, because all the prior Walmart commercials have been wiped.

1st Logo (1977-1983)

Logo: We see the image of a Walmart store zooming in on a sky background, and the signs read "WALMART" on each block, in a western-type font.

Variants:

  • A later version has the store design is different.
  • A later version exists where the logo is on a neon sign on a black background. It forms through a neon sign outline which trails and flashes through a sign.
  • In 1982, the Wal-Mart letters were in a different, sans-serif font.

FX/SFX: The image zooming in.

Music/Sounds: The end theme of the commercial

Music/Sounds Variants:

  • A later version exists where a choir sings "Coming to Wal-mart. Everyday is low prices." over a upbeat tune.
  • An instrumental version exists.

2nd Logo (1983-1988)

Logo: We see the end of the clip from the commercial zooming out, with the Wal-Mart logo appearing on top, consisting of the words "WAL-MART" in a blocky font. A slogan then appears below.

  • From 1983 to 1985, the logo is on a navy blue background, with the Wal-Mart logo is in orange. The text reads, also in orange, in a script font "'"'It's a better day when you save the Wal-Mart way"" fades in below.

3rd Logo (1988-2007)

Logo: We see a print version of the Wal-Mart logo appearing on the screen on a blue or black background, or sometimes shown on the last scene of the commercial.

Variants:

  • On a 1988 commercial for the music's chain discounts, the logo flys over on a blue box.
  • From 1989 to 1990, the text reads "ALWAYS THE LOW PRICE ON THE GIFTS YOU WANT.". Then the entire logo and slogan fades away to read "ALWAYS." A later version exists with different text on top, and it changes to the Always logo in white.
  • Starting in 1990, the logo became a blue gradient.
    • From 1990 to 1992, the text reads "ALWAYS THE LOW PRICE ON THE BRANDS YOU TRUST", and then we see the word "Always" in red with a line drawn below it.
    • From 1992 to 1994, the text reads "ALWAYS THE LOW PRICE", with the Always logo below.
    • From 1994 to 1999, the text reads below "ALWAYS LOW PRICES. ALWAYS WALMART" with the Always logo below.
    • From 1999 to 2007, the text below reads "ALWAYS LOW PRICES" with the Always logo below it.

7th Logo (2017-2019)

Logo: We see the Walmart logo fading in. Then a mouse pointer appears, and then the Walmart logo slides over to reveal the letter "com" on the right.

FX/SFX: The moving of the Walmart logo, the sliding of the logo.

Music/Sounds: The end theme of the commercial, with a clicking sound.

Availability: Seen at the end of several Walmart commercials from the era.

8th Logo (2019-2021)

Logo: At the end of the commercial, the Walmart logo zooms in. The background then fades to blue and the Walmart text fades in. The slogan then wipes from the right, in a different font.
