Background

The V.Smile (stylized as V.SMILE TV LEARNING SYSTEM) is an educational home video game console manufactured and released by VTech. Titles are available on ROM cartridges called "Smartridges", to play off the system's educational nature. The graphics are primarily sprite-based. Several variants of the V.Smile console are sold including handheld versions, or models with added functionality such as touch tablet integrated controllers or microphones. Licensed games for the system were released including games of characters from Disney and Nick Jr..

Logo (August 4, 2004-2010)

Visuals: On a white background, an orange circle grows. After about a couple of seconds, the circle becomes a orange card with a white oval in the center (similar to the later V.Motion game card). It then spins rapidly. Afterwards, it grows arms and legs (black "wires" with lavender balls for hands and feet), while the oval on the card grows a face (black eyes with white pupils and a orange smiling mouth). The card giggles and jumps as "V.SMILE" (with a "TM" mark next to the "E") and "TV LEARNING SYSTEM" (or "LEARNING SYSTEM") fade in. The card lands next to the logo and jumps again while the text shakes. Everything then freezes.

Variants:

There exists different language versions of the start-up in French, German, Italian, Castilian Spanish, Mexican Spanish and Chinese (the latter has Chinese lettering appear above the card).
Sometimes, there is no text under the logo.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Two boings as the circle grows, then a slide-whistle sound when the circle becomes a card, some "flipping" sounds when the card spins and another slide-whistle sound when it grows limbs and a face, followed by the card giggling and some cartoon sound effects when it jumps. When the card lands, it says "V.Smile!" There is also a faint ding when the logo freezes.

Audio Variants:

International versions of the console would have a different voice for the card, such as a male one for the German variant.
The Chinese version has a female voice-over reading the Chinese lettering above the card.

Availability: Appears after the VTech logo when starting up a V.Smile, with or without a Smartridge inserted.
