Background

Smosh, LLC is a company founded by Anthony Padilla in 2002. This company originally made flash animations for Newgrounds. His friend Ian Hecox later joined him and the duo started making YouTube videos in 2005. They are one of the first YouTube channels to ever exist. Currently they own the YouTube channel Smosh and Smosh Games as well as Shut Up! Cartoons. Smosh and all sub-brands are currently properties of Rhett & Link's Mythical Entertainment after being dropped by Defy Media when the latter company's assets were liquidated in early 2019. The name "Smosh" originates from when one of Anthony's friends, Ryan, had mistakenly said "smosh pit" instead of "mosh pit". In 2017, Padilla left Smosh to pursue his own YouTube career.

1st Logo (June 7-September 24, 2006)

Nicknames: "Shut Up!!!", "The Very First 'Shut Up!!!'", "The Forward Sign"

Logo: On a white background in a narrow letterbox format, we see a double forward arrow sign ">>" with a lowercase "s" sandwiched in between. The camera then pans out a bit while the insignia backs up to the left side of the screen before propelling forward to the right, revealing the words "Smosh Productions". After a few seconds, the letterbox closes.

FX/SFX: The insignia panning and revealing the name. It was probably made with Adobe After Effects.

Music/Sounds: A random sounder or one-liner (which varies depending on the video), before Ian Hecox interrupts shouting "Shut UP!!!".

Music/Sounds Variants

The California Stereotype Experiment: A soft rock tune with males singing "Californiaaaaaa! (Californiaaaaaa!)". Boxman: A lighthearted ukulele rendition of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" plays while a baby giggles.
Stranded: Seagulls chirping.
The Best Car EVER: The sound of a car revving.

Availability: Can be seen on 2006 shorts on the Smosh YouTube channel.

Editor’s Note: It's a funny logo, and is a favorite among Smosh fans.

2nd Logo (October 4, 2006-March 6, 2009)

Nicknames: "Shut Up!!! II", "The Improved Forward Sign"

Logo: Essentially the same as before, except the insignia is larger and zooms out from the camera before hitting the background (making a visible cloud), and the animation is smoother.

Variant: Starting with Hardcore Max, the logo's background is a grey/white checkerboard pattern filled with tiny Smosh insignias. Also "smosh.com" appears below the name and TM bugs appear next to the insignia and "Smosh".

FX/SFX: Same as before, but with the additional SFX.

Music/Sounds: Same as before. On Ian's Birthday and Santa is Real!, Ian shouts the line less effectively.

Music/Sounds Variants: See Logo Variations - Smosh Productions. From How Not to Make a First Impression, up to New Year's Eve PSA, the logo is silent.

Availability: Can be seen on earlier shorts from 2006 to 2009 on the Smosh YouTube channel.

3rd Logo (March 6, 2009-September 6, 2017)

Nicknames: "Shut Up!!! III", "Smosh Graffiti", "Cardboard Smosh", "That Weird Logo from Smosh", "Spray-paint Smosh"

Logo: On a light blue background, two large pieces of cardboard appear. One piece is whole and appears from the bottom, while the other appears from the top and has the word "SMOSH" cut out of it into it in an stencil font. A blue spray can appears and sprays blue paint onto the cardboard. When finished, the piece with "SMOSH" etched in is removed to reveal the initial piece, which has the blue "SMOSH" sprayed onto it now. A TM bug appears next to the "H" while the "M" starts leaking a bit. A green forward arrow flips in from the right and places itself next to "SMOSH". It expands to reveal the Smosh insignia. ".COM" in magenta pops up letter-by-letter under the insignia. A few seconds later, the logo "closes" like before.

Variants:

On SMOSH: The Movie and various announcement videos on Smosh's YouTube channel, the logo starts at the "Shut UP!!!" voice clip.
On Emma Watson Surprise PRANK and a few other videos, the animation looks noticeably smoother.
On IF APPS WERE REAL, the animation is in delayed motion.
There's a 10th Anniversary variant that starts with a sped up version of the logo before the logo moves down offscreen revealing "SMOSH", along with the insignia, in a white, impact-like, psuedo-3D font with a black outline. There is a "10" embedded in "SMOSH" with the "1" as the right stem of the "M" and the "0" as the "O". The numbers turn to gold one-by-one from left to right as the usual slogan plays. The logo closes like usual.
On a few "shorts" from 2009/2010, the animation plays as normal, however after it plays, "SHORT" (made to look like it was stamped onto the screen) appears over the text.

FX/SFX: The cardboard pieces appearing, the spray-painting, the insignia flipping into place. Nice animation made in Adobe After Effects. It is worth noting that even though the "O" cut out from the cardboard has a line across the middle to keep the hole intact, The spray-painted "O" on the cardboard is fully intact with no line.

Music/Sounds: Same as before.

Availability: Premiered on That Damn Prison Break in tandem with the 2nd logo and appears on shorts from the company on their YouTube channel as well as announcement videos. Also seen on SMOSH: The Movie. Was last seen on ONE LETTER OFF KIDS SHOWS. This intro is retired and no intro is used at the beginning of Smosh's videos, likely due to Padilla's departure.

Final Note: Starting in 2017, Smosh doesn't use an intro for their skits.
