ScrewAttack Entertainment

Background

ScrewAttack Entertainment, commonly shortened as just ScrewAttack, was an entertainment website that was founded in February 2006 by Craig Skistimas and Tom Hanley, and was incorporated in Dallas, Texas. The website focused on hosting various video game-related Machinimas and reviews, most famously James Rolfe's The Angry Video Game Nerd and ScrewAttack's own series, DEATH BATTLE!. On November 2015, ScrewAttack would be bought by Rooster Teeth, effectively turning it into a subsidiary. In February 2019, the website would disband the ScrewAttack name entirely in favor of the new DEATH BATTLE! group.

1st Logo (February-August 2006)

Logo: On a black background, we see a grungy black-and-white picture of a pair of headphones. A multicolored circle with a poorly drawn yellow lightning bolt infront of it is seen inside the headphones. The following text is seen below the logo:

SCREWATTACK.COM
Game on!

Trivia: The logo and name are based off the screw attack ability from the Metroid series of games.

Variants:

  • In some cases, "Game on!" was replaced with "WHERE GAMERS GO TO BE HEARD".
  • A prototype version of this logo had the lightning bolt be replaced with a yellow "S".

FX/SFX: The logo slowly zooming in, or none.

Music/Sounds: None, the opening music, or the song "Item Room Ambience" from Super Metroid.

Availability: Very rare. Was only seen on early 2006 episodes of ScrewAttack Video Game Vault, along with the variant.

2nd Logo (September? 2006-2012?)

Logo: On a black/space background with blue circles flying around, a silver lightning bolt flies from above, spins around multiple times, and moves to the center of the screen, which causes speed lines and rings to appear in the background. Then, the pair of headphones from the last logo flies in from above, covering the lightning bolt. Finally, the SCREWATTACK.COM wordmark is seen in a silver color. The text then flies infront of the screen, seguing into the video.

Variant: A prototype version had the logo in a red, green and yellow color scheme.

FX/SFX: Neatly done CGI animation.

Music/Sounds: As an opening logo, it used "Item Room Ambience" from Super Metroid. As a closing logo, it instead used the "Item Acquired" sound effect from the same game.

Availability: Rare. Seen on later episodes of ScrewAttack Video Game Vault, and may have also been seen on other ScrewAttack productions. It was also seen very briefly on The Angry Video Game Nerd.

3rd Logo (GameTrailers variant) (Late 2006-2011)

Logo: On a space background, we see many blue cubes floating around. We zoom to the right to see a grey box with the letters "GT". "GAMETRAILERS.COM" is seen below the letters. We quickly zoom out to see the box explode, causing a lot of screws to fly all in one direction. The camera follows these screws. The camera then pans downward, revealing that the screws were charging towards the lightning bolt from the last logo. The screws hit the bolt, causing it to glow light blue. The transparent text "SCREWATTACK.COM" appears below. Along with that are the words "GAMETRAILERS.COM PRESENTS A" on top of the logo, and "PRODUCTION" below it.

Later Variant: The headphones are now eliminated, and the wordmark is changed from blue to silver.

FX/SFX: Great CGI animation.

Music/Sounds: "Item Room Ambience" plays.

Availability: Same as the last logo. Seen on The Angry Video Game Nerd and ScrewAttack Video Game Vault.

4th Logo (Early 2007-Early 2010s)

Logo: On a space background, the lightning bolt from the previous logos zooms out of the screen, zooming into the center. The SCREWATTACK wordmark, which has ".COM" absent, is now seen on the center of the bolt instead of below it. The lightning bolt is seen slowly spinning around. The wordmark then zooms into the screen, mostly seguing into one of the still GameTrailers logos.

Variant: A still variant exists with "In association with" above. This was seen on certain AVGN episodes.

FX/SFX: The lightning bolt zooming in and spinning and the space background slowly moving in. Rather simplistic animation.

Music/Sounds: Merely 2 whooshing sounds.

Availability: Common. Seen at the end of The Angry Video Game Nerd episodes and, once again, on ScrewAttack Video Game Vault.

5th Logo (September 2011-Mid-2016)

Logo: On a blue background, the words "SCREW" and "ATTACK" slide in from left to right. The words then collide each other, which forms a blue lightning bolt.

Variants:

  • As a closing logo, the social media accounts for ScrewAttack were seen below.
  • A variant exists with "NETWORK" seen below "ATTACK". The background is also different.

FX/SFX: The words sliding in.

Music/Sounds: A retro-esque explosion sound effect.

Availability: Uncommon. Seen on ScrewAttack productions from the time. Don't expect to see this on The Angry Video Game Nerd, since it used the last logo for some reason. It also plasters the previous logos in older videos.

6th Logo (2017-January? 2019)
