Background

ScrewAttack Entertainment, commonly shortened as just ScrewAttack, was an entertainment website that was founded in February 2006 by Craig Skistimas and Tom Hanley, and was incorporated in Dallas, Texas. The website focused on hosting various video game-related content, series and reviews, most famously James Rolfe's The Angry Video Game Nerd and ScrewAttack's own series, DEATH BATTLE!. On November 2015, ScrewAttack would be bought by Rooster Teeth, effectively turning it into a subsidiary. In February 2019, the website would disband the ScrewAttack name entirely in favor of the new DEATH BATTLE! brand.

1st Logo (March 30-June 5, 2006, May 5, 2008)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a grungy black-and-white picture of a pair of headphones. A multicolored circle with a poorly drawn yellow lightning bolt infront of it is seen inside the headphones. The following text is seen below the logo:

SCREWATTACK.COM
Game on!

The logo slowly zooms in.

Trivia: The logo and name are taken directly from the Metroid item of the same name, albeit with a space in-between the words.

Variants:

  • A prototype version had the bolt be replaced with a simple "S". The slogan below also reads "WHERE GAMERS GO TO BE HEARD".
  • An early version had the same slogan from the aforementioned prototype version below the new logo.
  • A variant exists where the wordmark is stacked and is next to the headphones. It also shares with the Cinemassacre logo.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: Either "Item Room Ambience" or an "item acquired" sound effect, both from Super Metroid. These were used as an intro and an outro, respectively. None for the Cinemassacre variant.

Availability:

  • It was only seen on early 2006 episodes of ScrewAttack's Video Game Vault starting with the episode "DuckTales (NES)". The lightning bolt logo made it's debut on the VGV episode "Dudes With Attitude (NES)", and was last seen on "Ten Yard Fight (NES)".
  • The logo made a surprise reappearance in 2008 on the Cinemassacre.com upload of the intro for the fangame The Angry Video Game Nerd: Game Over.

2nd Logo (June 9, 2006-2012?)

Visuals: On a black/space background with blue spheres flying around, a silver lightning bolt flies from above, spins around multiple times, and moves to the center of the screen, which causes speed lines and rings to appear in the background. Then, the pair of headphones from the last logo flies in from above, covering the lightning bolt. Finally, the "SCREWATTACK.COM" wordmark is seen in a silver color. The text then flies infront of the screen.

Variant: A prototype version had the logo in a red, green and yellow color scheme.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Either the following:

  • Same as the last logo. Sometimes, a remix of the outro was used.
  • None.
  • Music from the preceding video.

Availability:

  • The prototype logo first appeared on later episodes of ScrewAttack's Video Game Vault starting with the episode "Rush 2049". The normal logo would debut on the VGV episode "Strider (Genesis)". Since then, it appeared on numerous other ScrewAttack productions during the era.
  • It can be seen on the original unedited versions of early Angry Video Game Nerd episodes. Cinemassacre's YouTube reuploads of AVGN episodes has this logo plastered with the AVGN/Cinemassacre and GameTrailers logos.

3rd Logo (GameTrailers variant) (February 2007-2011)

Visuals: On a space background is many blue cubes floating around. The screen zooms to the right to see a grey box (looking like the Empty Block from the Mario franchise) with the letters "GT". "GAMETRAILERS.COM" is seen below the letters. The screen quickly zooms out to see the box explode, causing a lot of screws to fly all in one direction. The camera follows these screws. The camera then pans downward, revealing that the screws were charging towards the lightning bolt from the last logo. The screws hit the bolt, causing it to glow light blue. The headphones from the previous logo appear inside of the bolt. The transparent text "SCREWATTACK.COM" appears below. Along with that are the words "GAMETRAILERS.COM PRESENTS A" on top of the logo, and "PRODUCTION" below it.

Later Variant: The headphones are eliminated, the lightning bolt now has a black outline and the wordmark is changed from blue to silver.

Technique: CGI.

Audio:

  • Early version: Same as the 1st logo, but with explosion sounds and whooshes added in.
  • Later version: A brief 6-note electric guitar tune repeated twice, accompanied by sounds of explosion and whooshes.
  • Some AVGN episodes used retro explosion sound effects.
  • On most The Angry Video Game Nerd episodes starting in 2009, music taken from various video games are used instead. For example, the 100th episode "R.O.B. the Robot" used the title theme for Contra.

Availability:

  • Seen on original ScrewAttack uploads of The Angry Video Game Nerd, and in ScrewAttack's Video Game Vault.
  • YouTube uploads of AVGN plaster this with the AVGN/Cinemassacre GameTrailers logos.

4th Logo (Early 2007-December 11, 2012)

Visuals: On a space background, the lightning bolt from the previous logos zooms out of the screen, zooming into the center. The SCREWATTACK wordmark, which has ".COM" absent, is now seen on the center of the bolt instead of below it. The lightning bolt is seen slowly spinning around. The wordmark then zooms into the screen, segueing into either the start of the video or one of the still GameTrailers logos.

Variants:

  • On "The Making of an AVGN Episode", "In association with" is seen above.
    • On the AVGN episode "Bible Games 3", the logo is stretched horizontally, and is completely still.

Technique: CGI for the bolt and space background, simplistic animation for everything else.

Audio: 2 whooshing sounds. On AVGN, music from the episode plays over it. Sometimes, the last logo's music plays.

Availability: Appeared on ScrewAttack's Video Game Vault and The Angry Video Game Nerd. It also appeared on other ScrewAttack videos at the time.

5th Logo (September 2011-Mid-2016)

Visuals: On a blue background, the words "SCREW" and "ATTACK" slide in from left to right. The words then collide each other, which forms a blue lightning bolt. The bolt flies into the screen, seguing into the video.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the social media accounts for ScrewAttack were seen below.
  • A variant exists with "NETWORK" seen below "ATTACK". The background is also different, and the logo ends with a TV shutdown effect.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: A retro-esque explosion sound effect.

Availability: Seen on ScrewAttack productions from the time, including DEATH BATTLE!. It also plasters the previous logos in reuploads of their older content.

6th Logo (2017-January? 2019)

Visuals: On a black background, a blue hexagonal shape zooms out of the screen. Then, the lightning bolt and another hexagon zooms inside the shape, which causes the screen to flicker. The logo zooms out to the left to reveal the words "SCREWATTACK".

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Electrical sounds, mixed with beeping noises.

Availability: Seen on ScrewAttack and DEATH BATTLE! videos until the disbanding of the ScrewAttack name.
