Background

Satin City is a production company founded in 1991 by Linwood Boomer. It is best-known for producing Malcolm in the Middle as well as the failed American adaptation of Red Dwarf.

1st Logo (1992)

Logo: An in-credit logo. Simply the words, "SATIN CITY, INC." in a plain, yellow font on a space background.

FX/SFX: None, it's in-credit.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the show.

Availability: Extinct. Only seen on the unaired pilot of the American adaptation of Red Dwarf.

Editor's Note: None.

2nd Logo (January 9, 2000-May 14, 2006)

File:Screenshot 2021-06-24 at 7.13.22 AM.png

Nicknames: "The Tubes", "Satin Skyscrapers"

Logo: Against a teal background, the word "Satin", in light blue script, is drawn in, flashing several times and appearing very out-of-focus. "CITY", in white, appears below letter-by-letter, and also flashes and re-draws several times. In the background, some teal "tubes" (intended to be buildings) with purple tips are drawn in.

Variant: A warp-speed version of the logo exists.

FX/SFX: The text appearing and tubes being drawn in.

Music/Sounds: 2 bass notes, then a single electric piano note rising in pitch. On the pilot episode it was completely silent (sans the Netflix prints).

Music/Sounds Variant: Some season 1 episodes of Malcolm in the Middle have an odd-sounding synthesized chord playing over the logo, which actually came from one of the show's music cues.

Availability: Seen on Malcolm in the Middle.

Editor's Note: A popular logo among Malcolm in the Middle fans. Besides, first-time watchers can get confused about the weirdness of this logo (the out-of-focus letters and the tubes).
