Background

Reliance Entertainment is a production and film-financing company originally based in India, and is a subsidiary of the Indian conglomerate Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group. They have a 20% investment in Amblin Partners.

1st Logo (2011-2013)

Nickname: "The Shining Rectangle"

Logo: On a black background, a gradient blue rectangle fades in. In it is the text "ReLIΛNCe". The "Λ" has a red triangle in it. The rectangle slowly zooms in and shines. "Entertainment" fades in below the rectangle.

Variants:

  • A still variant has been spotted on some films, as well as Electric City.
  • There is a variant where the box isn't zooming in, just only "Entertainment" is slowly zooming out.
  • There is also a variant where the box is smaller with the byline reads "A Reliance Entertainment Release".
  • There is also a weird variant where's the box is purple and has an unusual size.

FX/SFX: The shining.

Music/Sounds: Either an Indian-style theme (which is Reliance's signature jingle) with synths, drumbeats and a male chorus singing wordlessly, a creepy rising synth with scraping sounds, none, or the opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Uncommon. Found on films produced by this company, and its also seen in full on the company's movie trailers.

Editor's Note: This is a very simple logo, albeit one with memorable music, but their next logo is better than this...

2nd Logo (2012, unused)

Nicknames: "The Explosion Flare", "Reliance in Space"

Logo: On a blue space background, we see a lot of explosion-like fire come in and form together. The flames meet in the center, causing a pulse that makes the "ReLIΛNCe" text in its traditional font fold out, the "Λ" getting formed by what remains of the flare. It zooms out slowly as "ENTERTAINMENT" appears below the company name.

FX/SFX: Everything in the logo. All in great CGI. Done by Vitamin Pictures.

Music/Sounds: A bombastic fanfare and some flare sounds at the beginning.

Availability: Extinct. The logo was once available to watch on Vitamin Pictures' website. Unfortunately, the original Vimeo link containing the logo appears to have been deleted. Otherwise, it seems to be unused.

Editor's Note: A good logo with great CGI and nice music. The next logo, however, is even better.

3rd Logo (December 20, 2013- )

Nicknames: "The Bridge", "Miramax's Indian Cousin"

Logo: At dawn, we pan out from an ocean and zoom by a cable-stayed bridge. The sun appears, revealing a red tower shaped like the shape under the "Λ" in the 1st logo. As we zoom slowly onto the roadway, we see 2 more towers like the first one. We get on the highway and zoom out to see some cables. A sunburst occurs and a silver abstract "Λ" is seen as "RELI NCE" flips in beside the "Λ". The sunburst dies down and "ENTERTAINMENT" appears below the company name.

Variants:

  • A still version was seen on some films.
  • On The House with a Clock in its Walls, it has a slight tint of yellow. It cuts out early after it forms as usual.
  • On 1917, it is blue-tinted and starts when the first tower is revealed.

FX/SFX: Great CGI, done by Filmograph.

Music/Sounds: A majestic reorchestrated version of the Reliance jingle from the 1st logo, with repeating synth piano notes at the end.

Music/Sounds Variants:

  • On the The House with a Clock in its Walls variant, tick-tocking sounds are heard over it (referencing the film's title). The bell starts tolling to sync with the logo cutting to black and the following opening credits.
  • On the 1917 variant, the opening theme of the movie is used which is also used in the Universal Pictures, DreamWorks Pictures and New Republic Pictures logos.

Availability: Current and fairly common. Was first seen on Walking with Dinosaurs 3D. It has been seen on American films co-produced by this company like Bridge of Spies, The BFG, The Light Between Oceans, and Office Christmas Party.

Editor's Note: It's a beautiful logo, possibly one of the best from India.
