Rai Due

1st Logo (1983-1985)

Visuals: On a black background, a red cube flies in as an even bigger orange cube with a wireframe pattern flies into view. The cube then enters the bigger cube, flying through its yellow interior. A TV tube shape flips into view, with a black background with a white glow in the middle, and the text "RAIDUE", with "RAI" in red and "DUE" in orange, flips in. The tube then fills the background and the cube fully disappears as the logo zooms out onto a blue gradient background and a cube in the corner.

Variants:

  • A short version that was later introduced later in its usage starts with the cube outside of the bigger cube before fading to it entering the TV tube. The theme is the last few seconds of the normal theme.
  • An abridged version has the text zooming out as the middle of the background glows white. This has the last three notes from the Rai logo's theme at the time.

Technique: Early CGI, done by Studio ARA.

Audio: Same as the Rai logo at the time.

2nd Logo (1985-1988)

Visuals: On an orange background, a cube is seen flying through some translucent tunnels, filling them with red. The camera then zooms out of the tunnels and rotates upward to reveal the "RAIDUE" logo, along with a bunch of differently sized cubes. The logo's shadow moves a bit.

Variant: An abridged version has the logo already formed, with a single cube flying over the logo.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Same as the Rai logo at the time.

3rd ID (1988-1990)

Visuals: On a white background, there is a bunch of different colored squares zooming in, until a red cube with a wireframe pattern forms. After it appears, the "RAIDUE" logo in black appears, shining once.

Technique: The squares zooming in, the cube forming, the logo appearing. [possible misuse]

Audio: A xylophone theme that ends with the same 3 notes as before.

4th ID (1990-1991)

Visuals: On a white background, there are four pieces of a cube that show clips from various Rai Due programmes. The pieces of the cube randomly stretch throughout this sequence. After a while, the pieces turn red to form the same cube from the previous logos, which rotates and zooms out to the center as the "RAIDUE" logo fades in underneath.

Technique: Mostly CGI, with raw footage for the clips.

Audio: Unknown.

Legacy: The theme is a favorite of many.

5th ID (1991-1993)

Visuals: Over a scrolling gray and white background, the words "RAI" and "DUE" in a serif font slide in respectively from the top and bottom of the screen. When they move to the center, some parts of the letters gain a red shade and a red spinning cube appears in the "U".

Technique: 2D animation with CGI for the cube.

Audio: A rearrangement of the previous theme.

Legacy: Same as the 4th ID.

6th ID (1993-1998)

Visuals: On a white background, a multicolored filmstrip slides in from the bottom. Later on, a glass cube comes out of the back of the filmstrip and turns red before settling on its front side and the "RAIDUE" logo appears. The logo freezes once it's fully formed.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A 10-note theme played on the electric guitar.

Legacy: Same as the 4th ID.

7th ID (1995-1998)

Visuals: On a white background, there is a wall of crystal lines sliding in from the bottom. The word "DUE", made of red glass, fades in as the RAI logo appears from the left side of the screen.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Same as the previous logo, but only the last two notes are played.

Legacy: Same as the 4th ID.

9th ID (2000-2003)

Visuals: Over a white-red background is the Rai Due butterfly symbol sliding up from the white part of the background.

Variant: A longer variant exists. There is the butterfly symbol on a red background, zooming in on the bottom-left, with the Rai Due butterfly symbol coming up from the white part of the background.

Technique: 2D animation developed by Inarea.

Audio: A techno theme. On the closing and longer variants, the techno theme is longer.

10th ID (2003-2010)

Visuals: Over a red background is the butterfly logo with "Rai" next to it appearing. Then it rotates, turning into the butterfly symbol with "Due" next to it, before turning into the word "Pubblicità" ("Advertisement" in Italian).

Variants:

  • When the advertisements are over, the logo just rotates with "Rai" and "Due" in slow-motion.
  • There is a version where a male announcer says the word "Pubblicità".
  • A Christmas variant exists since 2009, where it's the regular Rai logo but with a Christmas letter (with a Christmas tree, present and a reindeer) moving to the left corner of the screen, as it stops, the card closes with a bow forming and the text behind it saying "Buone Feste" (Happy Holidays in Italian).

Technique: CGI done by Inarea.

Audio: Same as the Rai Uno ID.

Legacy: Same as the 4th ID.

Rai 2

11th ID (2010-2016)

Visuals: On a lava-like background, there is a giant 2 that rotates, as the camera changes to another position and the Rai 2 logo appears and shines.

Variant: There is a variant without the lava.

Technique: CGI produced by Frame by Frame.

Audio: A rock theme, ending with the iconic four-note jingle.

12th ID (2016-2017)

Visuals: Unknown.

Technique: 2D animation by Eloisa.

Audio: Unknown.
