1st Warning (1987-May 9, 2006)

the U.S. Government. The FBI investigates
allegations of copyright infringements
done willfully and for profit. Conviction
may result in a fine up to $10,000
and/or imprisonment up to one year.

1998-May 9, 2006
Federal law provides severe civil
and criminal penalties for unauthorized
reproduction, distribution or exhibition of
copyrighted Motion Pictures, Video Tapes
or Optical Video Discs. Criminal copyright
infringement is investigated by the FBI
and may consitute a felony with a
maximum penalty of up to five years
in prison and/or a $250,000 fine.

Variant:

• An early version exists, where "FBI WARNING" is in a different font, without the sandwiched red lines, the whole thing is in white, and takes place on a blue spotlight background.
• From 1989 to 2003, the top bar is in gradient. On DVDs until 2003, the word "FBI WARNING" is different.
• From 2003 to May 9, 2006, it takes place on a swirly background, especially "FBI WARNING" is bigger, in Arial Bold font, without the sandwiched red lines. All of the text is in metallic color.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on all Image Entertainment videocassettes, Laserdiscs, DVDs, early Blu-rays and UMDs. The early version was seen on the Laserdisc of Tangerine Canyon: Canyon Dreams. Prior to 1987/1988, Image did not use its own warning, instead using other companies' warning screens. Also seen on a VHS of Lady in White, a couple of SGE Home Video tapes, and Fox Lorber Home Video and Kino International releases.

2nd Warning (May 16, 2006-2015)

Same as the 5th Universal Pictures Home Entertainment warning at the time.

Variants:

• A widescreen version exists.
• Depending on the disc, it either fades or cuts in and out.
• On most Blu-rays, the 2006 Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Blu-ray variant is used instead.
• On the 2010 DVD of ExTerminators and the 2011 Blu-ray of The Double, the Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment variant is used instead.

Availability: Seen on Image Entertainment DVDs, Blu-rays, and later UMDs (excluding Image's 2011 DVD reissue of Awakenings, which is a straight reprint of the original Columbia TriStar Home Video release and therefore uses their own warning). This warning debuted on the 2006 DVD release of Even Trade.

3rd Warning (2015-)

Visuals: Same as Columbia Music Video's warning screen, except the bottom text is centered.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on Image Entertainment/RLJE Films Blu-rays and 4K Ultra HD discs.

4th Warning (Shudder) (August 18, 2020- )

Visuals: On a black background, the following text in white fades in and out:

WARNING
The unauthorized reproduction or distribution
of this copyrighted work is illegal. Criminal
copyright infringement, including infringement
without monetary gain, is investigated by the
FBI and is punishable by up to 5 years in federal
prison and a fine of $250,000.

Variant: On Vicious Fun, the font is different and is arranged differently.

Technique: Fading effects.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on current releases of Shudder originals released on Blu-ray, such as Prevenge, Seance, Caveat and V/H/S 94.
